The Goat Life, or Aadujeevitham, is a survival drama headlined by Prithviraj Sukumaran. Under the guidance of director Blessy, this movie became one of the top-earning Malayalam films in 2024 and garnered acclaim for its compelling narrative and standout acting. Interestingly, though it was a hit at the box office, the filmmaker shared that the project did not yield profits for him personally.
Despite the fact that Aadujeevitham was successful at the box office, Director Blessy shared that it did not yield any profit for him. This is because the film’s impressive performance was overshadowed by its high production costs, which ultimately affected its financial success. He elaborated that the substantial investment made in the budget left him with no earnings.
The movie “Aadujeevitham” is adapted from Benyamin’s 2008 novel, which draws upon the real-life tale of Najeeb, a Malayali worker in the Gulf region. Starring Prithviraj Sukumaran alongside Jimmy Jean-Louis, Rik Aby, Amala Paul, K. R. Gokul, Talib Al Balushi, and Shobha Mohan, it was initially prohibited for viewing in many Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, except the UAE. However, this ban has since been overturned everywhere except Kuwait and Saudi Arabia.
In 2009, Blessy obtained the rights to adapt a project, but encountered budget issues that caused delays. Things picked up again in 2015 when A. R. Rahman took on composing the music. Filming took place from 2018 until 2022, spanning Jordan, Kerala, and Algeria. During the pandemic, the crew found themselves stranded in Jordan for 70 days before being safely repatriated through India’s Vande Bharat Mission.
On March 28, 2024, this movie made its debut. Critics praised it for the excellent acting and technical aspects. It raked in over 100 crore rupees, placing it as the third highest-grossing Malayalam film and among the top Indian films of 2024.
In the Kerala State Film Awards 2024, Blessy’s film, Aadujeevitham, triumphed by earning nine accolades. Among these were recognition for Best Actor, Best Popular Film, and Best Director.
