Did Lokesh Kanagaraj take a dig at SS Rajamouli? Coolie director claims he doesn’t make ‘actors sit for 3 years’

At present, Lokesh Kanagaraj appears swamped with tasks, largely due to the incredible anticipation surrounding his upcoming movie, “Coolie”. This skilled director has been generating quite a stir lately by making shrewd disclosures about his projects, leaving many in a state of amazement.

On the Sudhir Srinivasan podcast, the director unveiled the highly-awaited disclosure regarding his upcoming movie projects.

Following Coolie, he predicted a series of follow-ups, including Kaithi 2, Vikram 2, and potentially Leo 2, all under the LCU. Additionally, Rolex will be a separate movie featuring Suriya.

According to his statement, “Following Kaithi 2, there will be another film with Kamal Haasan, Vikram, and me because the story isn’t complete yet. Afterward, Leo 2 is on the table, while Rolex is a standalone project. Suriya and I have been brainstorming an idea for that for quite some time.

For those unfamiliar, the initial episode of “Leo” introduced Thalapathy Vijay. With the actor planning to leave films for politics, there’s been lots of talk about who might step into the role for “Leo 2.”

In a different part of the conversation, Lokesh discussed his forthcoming movie “Coolie” and expressed his fondness for working on films that are primarily multi-star productions.

As a devoted admirer, I find myself drawn to make a comparison – albeit humbly – to the esteemed filmmaker, SS Rajamouli, and his epic masterpiece, “RRR”. Much like how the actors in “RRR” dedicated themselves to this project for an impressive span of three years, I too aspire to devote myself wholeheartedly to my craft, aiming for similar levels of commitment and impact.

Instead, he mentioned that it takes him several months to thoroughly finish and properly space out the necessary time for his film, ensuring a complete wrap of each project.

He stated, “Unlike RRR where actors have to commit for three years, I complete my films within six to eight months. Therefore, I require full dedication from my cast members towards my project and ask them not to alter their looks during filming.”

Release date for Coolie is set for August 14, 2025.
