Did Daemon tell Blood and Cheese to kill a child in House of the Dragon?

As a seasoned gamer and avid watcher of Game of Thrones prequels, I must say that the actions of Daemon Targaryen in House of the Dragon have left me scratching my head. The death of a child is never an easy topic to tackle, especially when it comes to a character as complex as Daemon.

In the series “House of the Dragon”, Daemon Targaryen has been involved in actions that have raised eyebrows. Is it true that he commanded the killing of a child among these instances?

In the opening episode of House of the Dragon‘s second season, Rhaenyra openly expresses her desire for Aemond and seeks revenge for the death of her son, Lucaerys, who met his end in Season 1’s finale. It is Daemon who assumes responsibility by dispatching two men to take down Aemond Targaryen.

Ultimately, they failed to locate Aemond. Instead, they opted to slay Jaehaerys Targaryen, with Blood uttering, “A life for a life.” It appeared that this was Daemon’s command, but is that accurate?

We didn’t see what Daemon told them to do in House of the Dragon

In a private conversation with Daemon Targaryen, Blood and Cheese inquire about their course of action should they fail to locate Aemond. It’s not that they dread taking down Aemond, but rather they express concern over whether or not they will even be able to find him.

Daemon doesn’t answer this. The camera pans away and we cut to the next scene.

It’s plausible that Blood and Cheese might assume this responsibility. They have understood the phrase “an eye for an eye,” and it’s possible Blood thought the identity of the son wouldn’t make a difference. Jaehaerys, being a son to Aegon and Helaena, could very well be the chosen one in this scenario.

Daemon tells Rhaenyra “it was a mistake” in House of the Dragon

Instead of implying Daemon directly instructed them to murder a child, it could be rephrased as: When Rhaenyra accused him of commanding the death of a child, Daemon responded by saying “it was a mistake.” This line, though improvised by Matt Smith, still carries significant weight in the narrative.

As a gamer, I wish I’d clearly communicated to Blood and Cheese that they should only search for Aemond, no alternatives. Not specifying might have been my blunder.

It’s plausible that Daemon was merely suggesting the idea in his phrasing, not genuinely expecting Blood or Cheese to follow through. Given his reputation for ruthlessness, it wouldn’t be surprising if he were less vocal about his intentions.

It’s quite possible that we may never find out for certain. If Daemon clarifies things in “House of the Dragon” Season 3, then perhaps our speculations will be put to rest.
