Did Brock Lesnar Turn down a Match With a Former WWE Champion?

As a long-time WWE fan and someone who has witnessed countless epic battles between legendary wrestlers, I can’t help but be intrigued by the story surrounding Brock Lesnar‘s refusal to work with Jinder Mahal during their scheduled match at the 2017 Survivor Series.

I’ve been a huge fan of Brock Lesnar since his days as a dominant champion in WWE. He’s faced off against legends like John Cena, Triple H, Big Show, Seth Rollins, AJ Styles, Daniel Bryan, and Roman Reigns, leaving no doubt about his greatness. In 2017, it was reported that Lesnar refused to work with then-champion Jinder Mahal. As a fan, it’ll be interesting to see how the story unfolds between these two wrestling giants.

In 2017, Brock Lesnar held the Universal Championship title in WWE’s Monday Night Raw, while Jinder Mahal became the Champion on SmackDown. At the annual Survivor Series event, which highlights the competition between these two brands, a confrontation between Lesnar and Mahal was arranged. Mahal issued the challenge for Lesnar to defend his title at the Survivor Series.

At first, WWE announced the match for the Survivor Series event. But, a few weeks prior, Jinder Mahal challenged AJ Styles for the WWE title during SmackDown. Surprisingly, Styles managed to win and seized the championship from Mahal. Consequently, Mahal was replaced by Styles in the Survivor Series match against Brock Lesnar.

During their match, Styles and Lesnar put on an incredible show, reminiscent of some of WWE’s finest bouts. Yet, a lingering curiosity persists: what was it that prevented Lesnar from collaborating with Jinder Mahal?

Jinder Mahal reveals why his match with Brock Lesnar never took place

I, as a passionate gamer, recently came across some intriguing news about former WWE Champion Jinder Mahal. He was a guest on Chris Van Vliet’s podcast, “Insight.” During the chat, Jinder spoke openly about several subjects, such as his release and the infamous Punjabi prison match. A question that particularly piqued my interest was regarding rumors about Brock Lesnar not wanting to collaborate with him.

In his own words, he expressed, “This is only my viewpoint, and it’s clear that there’s an abundance of incorrect information on the web. The title read, ‘Brock Lesnar declined a collaboration with Jinder.’ I believe he didn’t decline; instead, he likely proposed a match against AJ for stylistic reasons. After all, both Brock and I are villains in the ring. Determining who would add heat to whom would have made the match flat. It would have just been him suplexing me repeatedly, perhaps with Singh Bros intervention. However, the bout between AJ and Lesnar was exceptional – no exaggeration needed.”

He went on to explain, “I don’t believe Brock deliberately refused to team up with me. More likely, he and Paul Heyman persuaded Vince to arrange our match with AJ Styles instead. It was unexpected, but I had held the championship for six months, so losing it eventually was inevitable.”

Mahal shared that Vince McMahon was the one who broke the news to him that he would be losing the championship to AJ Styles on that very night. McMahon then announced that AJ Styles would receive the title and go up against Brock Lesnar at Survivor Series.
