As a dedicated gamer and a huge fan of Bollywood, I can’t help but be intrigued by the captivating journey of Vicky Kaushal in the film industry. Before his recent success as an actor, I was amazed to learn that he worked behind the scenes as an assistant director for Anurag Kashyap on the iconic film “Gangs of Wasseypur.”
Vicky Kaushal, a rising Bollywood star who recently shined in the movie “Bad Newz,” has an engaging past in the world of cinema. Prior to his popularity, Kaushal contributed as an assistant director for Anurag Kashyap’s critically acclaimed film “Gangs of Wasseypur” behind the scenes.
‘We somehow escaped’: Bad Newz’s Vicky Kaushal during Gangs of Wasseypur shooting
In a recent chat with comedian Tanmay Bhat on his YouTube channel, actor Vicky Kaushal recounted a close call from his time filming “Gangs of Wasseypur.” He described coming face-to-face with the sand mafia during the capture of illicit sand mining footage, narrowly escaping physical harm.
“I was astonished to discover that the coal smuggling depicted in the film was authentic, as we personally captured it on camera. During our mission to document illegal sand mining, I was taken aback when I first came to terms with the fact that this blatant activity was not hidden from view, but rather took place so openly that it appeared almost normal to me.”
While covertly shooting, Vicky and her team found themselves surrounded by approximately 500 onlookers. Tensions rose when the elderly camera operator attempted to contact their production crew over the walkie-talkie. The crowd misunderstood this communication as a request for help from a powerful figure, leading them to become agitated. “The man struck the cameraman, seized the camera, and menaced us with threats of damaging it,” Vicky explained, adding that they narrowly avoided being assaulted themselves.
Anurag Kashyap’s film “Gangs of Wasseypur” was shot on-site at authentic locations, employing concealed cameras at times, which exposed the production team to potential hazards. Previously, Anurag had discussed the perils inherent in this unconventional filmmaking approach.
Vicky Kaushal’s path from an assistant director to a renowned actor is truly inspiring. He commenced his acting career with the film “Masaan” and has since appeared in notable movies such as “Raman Raghav 2.0,” “Raazi,” “Sanju,” “Uri: The Surgical Strike,” “Sardar Udham,” and “Sam Bahadur.” In his latest project, titled “Bad Newz,” Vicky collaborated with Anand Tiwari as the director and acted alongside Triptii Dimri and Amy Virk.
