Dick Van Dyke’s Wife Says He’s ‘Sick That He Can’t Be At’ Fan Event

Legendary comedian Dick Van Dyke, who is enshrined in the Television Hall of Fame, was unable to attend a comedy event because he had an unfortunate day. His wife disclosed that the seasoned actor would miss the event as a result of his present health situation.

Dick Van Dyke cancels hosting Vandy Camp after having a ‘bad day’

On June 28th, Disney icon Dick Van Dyke, who has won an Emmy, missed an appearance at the Arlene & Dick Van Dyke Theater due to feeling unwell. Originally planned for that day was his event, Vandy Camp, held at Malibu High School.

Just before the event, Arlene Silver, the actor’s wife, announced that he, being The Music Man star, wouldn’t be able to attend. After expressing regrets to the audience, Silver pointed out that when one is 99-and-a-half years old, there are good days and bad days, similar to when one is 40 years old (as reported by Variety).

“Unfortunately, today is not a good day for him, and he’s sick that he can’t be here.”

After Silver’s speech, the seasoned actor connected with fans through a brief live broadcast. His spouse remained hopeful, playfully hinting that he might appear alongside Vanessa Camp next time.

For those not in the know, Vandy Camp refers to an exclusive occasion where Van Dyke, his spouse, and their band Vantastix take center stage. Typically, this gathering includes a question-and-answer session with the actor, live music performances, as well as other engaging activities.

The June 28th festivity signified the third anniversary of the event’s operation. A portion of this year’s earnings will be donated to the Dick Van Dyke Museum, which is currently being constructed.

Moreover, it’s worth mentioning that this December marks Van Dyke’s 100th birthday. Lately, his wife playfully remarked about the seasoned entertainer outliving his contemporaries. During a recent conversation about future projects, Van Dyke and his spouse revealed an intriguing tidbit: they and Ed Asner had previously contemplated reprising the comedy The Odd Couple together at some point.

In 2021, our dream with Asner never came to fruition. He once mentioned that it would’ve been a blast, but unfortunately, we missed out on the fun. I’ve sadly seen many gaming buddies go, and Asner was one of them. As he put it, “He’s outlived everybody” (Independent).

As Van Dyke approaches his hundredth birthday, his wife noted that he continues to maintain a positive outlook. In response, the actor said, “Life has treated me well; I have little to grumble about.
