Developers of The Day Before cancel their failed Kickstarter just to announce another new game

As a seasoned gamer with years of navigating the tumultuous sea of game development and launches under my belt, I can’t help but feel a mix of skepticism and amusement when it comes to Fntastic. Their latest announcement about canceling Escape Factory and unveiling ITEMS has left me scratching my head more than once.

Recently, Fntastic updated their followers about the abandonment of their unsuccessful Kickstarter project and unveiled a brand new game they’re working on instead.

Fntastic’s Controversial Track Record

Fantastic has earned a mixed reputation, not all of it favorable. Following the release of their latest game, the studio unexpectedly shut down just four days later—only to reopen again at a later time. The same studio was vague about crucial aspects of the game they were working on, discovering it was an MMO by watching the trailer. Later, the developers attributed the game’s poor performance to what they called a “malicious campaign” by anonymous bloggers.

In September, Fntastic initiated a Kickstarter for an innovative project titled “Escape Factory,” which they described as a multiplayer, physics-based escape game that can be played cooperatively. Unfortunately, the campaign failed to gain momentum, managing to raise just $2,000 out of its targeted $15,000 goal and was ultimately terminated.

Interestingly, as they declared the termination of X (previously known as Twitter), Fntastic simultaneously unveiled another forthcoming game.

The recently unveiled project, named ITEMS, has been characterized as an action-horror game centered around prop hunting. Yet, enthusiasts have pointed out a strong resemblance to the studio’s prior creation, Propnight, that ultimately ceased operation.

Fan Reactions and Community Backlash

Hey there fellow gamers! As I’ve shared the latest updates from Fntastic, I’ve seen quite a spectrum of responses. Some folks are scratching their heads in puzzlement or feeling a bit annoyed, while others can’t help but chuckle at the news. It’s been quite a ride!

A significant number of people have been voicing their opinions on social media, labeling the developers as “deceptive” and making lighthearted comments suggesting that Fntastic celebrates “April Fool’s Day year-round.” Some even question whether Fntastic might be the most “delusional developers in history.

Uncertain Future for Fntastic’s New Project

Currently, the items from ITEMS haven’t initiated a Kickstarter campaign yet, and enthusiasts are left with just their hopes that this will continue. Given the volatile nature of Fntastic’s past actions, it’s challenging to guess what they may decide to do in the future.
