Detroit hip-hop artist Dajua Blanding, better known as Dank Demoss, is taking legal action against ride-sharing company Lyft following an alleged ride cancellation by a driver. Blanding claims the driver discriminated against her based on her weight, which has stirred up considerable debate since the incident occurred on January 18, 2025.
Here is why Dajua Blanding is suing Lyft.
Why is Detroit Rapper suing Lyft?
Musician Dajua Blanding has filed a lawsuit against Lyft, asserting that one of their drivers declined her ride based on her weight. In a court case submitted to Michigan’s Wayne County Circuit Court on January 27, 2025, Blanding states that on January 18, 2025, the driver in question refused to allow her access to his vehicle, stating her size as the grounds for denial, following her payment for the ride (as reported by PEOPLE).
As a devoted fan, I was all set to hop on a ride to my cousin’s house for the much-anticipated football game watch party. But things took an unexpected turn when the driver, known as John Doe, arrived at my place. Instead of opening the doors for me, he is said to have locked them and made an attempt to drive off, leaving me in shock as I approached. This is according to a lawsuit that has been filed.
According to reports, the driver reportedly said to Blanding that she was too large to fit in the vehicle, and he insisted his car’s tires couldn’t support her weight. This unexpected behavior left Blanding bewildered, leading the driver to terminate the ride and depart without further interaction.
As a passionate fan, I’m speaking out about an incident where I felt unfair treatment. I believe the driver exhibited discriminatory behavior towards me, and it seems that Lyft’s standard vehicles should have been spacious enough for me. Incidentally, the driver proposed I book a Lyft XL, which, as per their official website, is a roomier vehicle designed to accommodate up to six passengers.
Blanding is filing a lawsuit against both the driver and Lyft, claiming they fostered a harmful atmosphere and inflicted emotional and mental trauma beyond financial losses. Additionally, she is requesting compensation for feelings of embarrassment and distress.
As a gamer, I’d put it like this: “Hey gamers, I want to make it clear that any form of discrimination is unacceptable in our community. We’re all about respect and kindness for everyone here. Our rules are crystal clear – no harassment or discrimination allowed.
