Recently, Bungie launched update 8.2.0.2 for Destiny 2, however, the developer is receiving more attention beyond the game. Lately, they’ve denied a $200 million lawsuit from a former D2 director and have also refuted plagiarism allegations in court. As a result, a well-known Destiny 2 YouTube content creator has addressed Bungie through their video.
Destiny 2 YouTuber responds to Bungie using their lore video
In October 2024, Game File highlighted a legal dispute between Destiny 2 and science fiction author Matthew Kelsey Martineau. The author alleged that Bungie had plagiarized elements in the Red War campaign, specifically the portrayal of a faction known as the Red Legion.
As a dedicated Destiny 2 player, I’ve got some sad news to share from Bungie’s recent update. They’ve confirmed that they can’t revive the old content we fans have been yearning for. It’s like those classic missions and items have retired, no longer fitting with the game’s current structure.
As a gamer, I’ve noticed that the Red War campaign from Destiny 2 is no longer available and can’t be reinstated. So when Bungie needed to prove certain aspects of the game’s narrative in the Martineau lawsuit, they couldn’t simply submit a copy of Destiny 2 as evidence because, according to their game files, they can’t just present the game itself to establish the facts of the story. Instead, they had to rely on videos from YouTubers to support their case.
Instead of showcasing their game for an exhibition, Bungie opted to share a detailed 10-hour video on the storyline of Destiny, titled “The Complete Story of Destinity! From Beginnings to Final Form! Light & Dark Saga Lore & Timeline”, produced by renowned D2 YouTuber MynameisByf. Additionally, they referenced “Destiny 2: The Red War All Cutscenes (Season 1)” from Destin as part of their presentation.
As a Destiny 2 gamer, I’m bummed out that the thrilling content from before Beyond Light can’t be revisited, and it seems like Bungie’s heavy reliance on YouTubers to fill in the gaps is indicative of vaulting content being a misstep. The fact that significant chunks of gameplay and a large part of the overall story are absent, especially for newcomers, is a major letdown.
Regarding Destiny 2, recent leaks suggest the appearance of an exceptional weapon that’s almost like cheating. Meanwhile, Sony has addressed a $200 million lawsuit filed against them by the game’s previous director.
