player numbers for Destiny 2 have been declining steadily following the launch of The Final Shape, and despite fresh story material not managing to re-engage players with its live service, an ingenious move has proven successful – a collaboration with Star Wars.
As a devoted player, I must admit that the latest revelations about Destiny 2 have left me pondering if it’s heading towards a fusion of popular titles like Fortnite or Call of Duty. However, one thing is clear: Destiny 2 is making a comeback, though in a more subtle way this time around.
Destiny 2 Star Wars crossover brings back players
Before the unveiling of the Star Wars crossover, Destiny 2 recorded its lowest player count on Steam to date. Although the launch of new cosmetics from a galaxy far, far away didn’t instantly boost the looter-shooter back to its highest level, it has been gradually attracting more players once again.
Even before Destiny 2’s Star Wars partnership has been launched, the recent collaboration announcement has triggered a flood of gamers returning to Bungie’s title. It seems that many can’t wait for the unveiling of the new Star Wars in-game items on February 4th, so they’re diving back into this sci-fi MMOFPS game.
Following the recent announcement, there’s been a modest increase in player count according to Steam Charts, suggesting a bit of revival for Destiny 2. However, it appears that no partnership or collaboration will be enough to restore the massive player base the game had previously. It seems that only a Destiny 3 could potentially achieve that, but unfortunately, that’s not on the horizon.
Despite its late stage in the game, it’s intriguing to observe what elements are keeping Destiny 2 popular. Given that other looter shooters like The First Descendant are also losing players, it seems that the looter-shooter genre might be encountering difficulties. In light of this, it’s possible that people have other priorities.
