Recently, Bungie’s Destiny 2 has faced challenges in maintaining player interest. After the release of The Final Shape expansion, there’s been a significant drop in player numbers without any signs of recovery.
After the debut of Act 3 in the Revenant game, its newest content addition, players have expressed dissatisfaction with Bungie’s narrative style, as the extended franchise seems to rehash the same well-worn themes.
Fans hate Destiny 2’s repetitive story
Following the completion of Act 3 for Destiny 2’s Revenant expansion, many enthusiasts voiced their dissatisfaction across multiple social media platforms concerning the grind required, newly introduced bugs, and the narrative of the fresh content.
Spoilers Ahead
On the subreddit dedicated to Destiny 2, gamers voiced their frustration over Bungie’s writing for Act 3 of Revenant. In addition to feeling that Mithrax’s long-term character growth was undone in just one mission, players are growing weary of Bungie’s persistent efforts to provide characters with a “rehabilitation storyline”.
In a new twist for the game Destiny, the recurring antagonist Eramis, who’s long been the source of much player anguish, is now being given a chance at redemption. However, some fans find this sudden shift in character arc, which appears to be forced rather than organic, to be unsatisfying and out of place with their expectations.
After completing the new content, a fan expressed that they’d accept redemption arcs, but only if the characters truly demonstrate their worth through their actions. Unfortunately, Eramis hasn’t displayed any signs of self-reflection or altered behavior.
For devoted gamers who’ve returned after a prolonged absence, Eramis’ “redemption” has stirred much anticipation. While they battled the beast in Beyond Light, they yearned for a conclusive showdown to settle the score. Unfortunately, it seems that such an encounter won’t take place.
