Destiny 2 players have some hilarious textureless weapons from Rite of the Nine fiasco

Initially planned for release alongside Destiny 2: Heresy Act 3 in April, the Rite of the Nine event actually went live mid-March. Players soon found an unfinished version, jumped in, and started accumulating some awe-inspiring, textureless weapons. Despite disabling the event, Bungie can’t erase the amusing screenshots it provided us.

The events began on March 11, 2025, marking the start of Destiny 2: Heresy Act 2 by Bungie. In a recent developer live stream, they hinted at details about Rite of the Nine. This activity promises a fresh take on three dungeons, new rewards, and a new Ultimatum mode. It also boasts weapons themed around The Nine. As you can tell, this unintentional early release has led to some amazing weapon concepts.

This Auto Rifle sports a sparkling shader, giving it a completely sleek appearance due to its minimal design elements.

Bungie swiftly dealt with the issue by temporarily taking Destiny 2 offline. Rather than opting for a full-scale rollback that would affect all players, even those not involved, Bungie chose to restrict access to the Rite of the Nine mission instead. Players retain their cardboard guns for now, but it remains uncertain if these items will be reinstated by Bungie at a later time.

As a dedicated fan, I can’t help but notice the recurring issues with the latest Destiny 2 content drops. It seems some might argue that if management hadn’t let go of so many QA team members, these glitches could potentially be minimized. Regrettably, we’re still grappling with a game riddled with bugs and a player base that’s gradually shrinking. However, there’s one silver lining – the introduction of some quirky-looking guns to keep us entertained for now.
