In the near future, Destiny 2 Episode Heresy Act 1 will conclude, and Bungie’s recent announcements about upcoming adjustments (nerfs) have sparked debate among players. Moreover, Bungie has rolled out D2 update 8.2.0.2. As we eagerly await the arrival of Heresy Act 2, it appears that Destiny 2 enthusiasts have stumbled upon a secret buff that’s proving somewhat troublesome and requires attention in the meantime.
Destiny 2 fans discover enemy buff that needs fixing
On the r/DestinyTheGame subreddit, user FrostWendigo posted what they claim to be evidence that developer Bungie has covertly enhanced the shields of the Taken Phalanx. After developing a strong belief that Taken Phalanxes are now more formidable than they were in the previous episode, the user dug through their video collection and presented evidence suggesting that, indeed, the Taken Phalanxes have been altered.
Instead of positioning their shield off to the side and merely elevating it for a forceful push-back, they currently keep it in front of them, much like the latest Dire Taken Phalanx does.
It’s incredibly aggravating that the shield of the Dire Taken Phalanx has been reduced in size, making it less effective at blocking attacks. In contrast, the standard Taken Phalanx retain their full-sized shield, which previously covered both their head and a significant portion of their body when standing in front. This change significantly alters the gameplay dynamics.
As the OP contends, the buff appears to be excessive. This is due to the fact that they managed to solo-flawlessly conquer Starcrossed during the Season of Wish, but when they attempted it earlier this week, they found it extremely difficult even to get past the initial Phalanx. It’s hard to believe their skills have deteriorated to such an extent.

It’s unclear if this is an accidental glitch or a hidden upgrade intentionally designed by Bungie. Regardless of the reason, players believe that Bungie should address this alteration as it’s something they feel requires fixing.
Many responses concur that the buff is bothersome because it requires aiming at the edge of their right foot, which implies that most other attacks simply bounce back. In simpler terms, weapons like Chill Clip Tinasha’s are hardly effective against them unless you attack from above or behind.
As a Void Warlock gamer, it’s truly disheartening to let fly with a slowva bomb, only to see most of my damage marked as ‘immune’. It seems that this happens because the Unstoppable Phalanx, despite being stunned, still has its shield up.
As of now, Bungie has yet to address this finding through their BungieHelp or Destiny2Team social media platforms. Here’s hoping they release a solution promptly, if not, an explanation online would be appreciated.
Players are finding themselves in possession of unreleased Destiny 2 weapons that aren’t intended to be accessed at this time. Leaked information suggests a potential 80% damage increase with a perk called “buff,” and it seems these weapons may come as a pre-order bonus related to Apollo.
