Currently, Destiny 2 is not in its best condition. Previously, it was adored by gamers who were excited to play daily, but recently, the game seems to have lost its luster and the community’s frustration grows day by day. To cap off a difficult year, players have been displeased by a brief response from Destiny 2 developers regarding complaints about The Dawning event.
2024 has been quite disappointing so far, but Bungie has provided us a promising roadmap for 2025 filled with exciting events and celebrations. The journey begins with the release of Revenant Act 3 on January 7th, followed by an update that brings several significant adjustments (buffs and nerfs) shortly afterward.
Anticipation is high for Destiny 2 Act 3 of The Revenant, as the current scene feels somewhat lifeless. The recent Dawning event didn’t meet expectations, leading to a fair share of complaints from the Destiny 2 community voicing their discontent on various online platforms.
Destiny 2 dev responds to The Dawning event criticism
In the DestinyTheGame subreddit, user mgbridges70 posted that the Dawning event has been discouraging them from participating in seasonal activities because they receive more Essence of Dawning and Gifts in Return from playing Vanguard or Gambit compared to Onslaught or Tomb of Elders. The OP finds it peculiar that Tomb, in particular, is quite stingy with rewards.
A majority of responses shared the same opinion as the original poster, and some highly rated comments expressed that the Dawning event discouraged them from playing the entire game or taking part in any activities.
In a recent interaction, Bungie’s global community leader, dmg04, replied with a straightforward “heard”. However, this response sparked a wave of disappointment and frustration among the players.

1 User expressed to the head of the global community that “It’s no concern now since the event is concluding, this issue has been a persistent problem for quite some time.” The other user voiced their disappointment, saying “Don’t fret. It probably won’t be addressed in time for next year either.” (Informal)
2 User conveyed to the community leader that “As the event is ending, this recurring issue doesn’t seem to matter now.” The other user voiced their pessimism, stating “I doubt they will resolve it before next year rolls around.” (Formal)
A different user wondered aloud if their concerns are truly being addressed. This doubt arises as Bungie has repeated the same event, complete with recurring bugs, which has resulted in similar complaints.
To conclude, users found the brief responses less satisfying. Some feedback was positive, like, “Even in short replies, Bungie’s effort shines through” while others were more critical, stating, “The leadership and community representatives at Bungie are unfortunately not up to par.
It’s evident that participants are displeased with the ongoing The Dawning event. Fortunately, it concludes on December 31st; however, its termination leaves a somewhat barren period up until the commencement of Revenant Act 3.
For more Destiny 2, the low player count has sounded alarm bells that the game is dying.
