In a fascinating twist of events, Allu Arjun’s 2007 film “Desamuduru,” a Telugu romantic thriller, continues to be iconic for multiple reasons. Interestingly, this movie will once again grace the silver screen in theaters on May 10. As it gears up for another successful run at the box office, you might not know that Allu Arjun was not initially chosen for the role; instead, another actor was first considered.
Indeed, you’re correct. The screenplay for Desamuduru, a movie helmed by Puri Jagannadh, was initially shared with actor Sumanth, who is related to Nagarjuna Akkineni. However, despite an apparently promising opportunity, the situation didn’t work out in favor of the actor from Madhumasam.
According to a News18 Telugu report, Sumanth expressed his disappointment with the movie’s plot, which features a hero falling in love with a nun. Reportedly, he found the idea unrealistic and questioned its authenticity, stating, “Is it common for a hero to have feelings for a nun? Is such a scenario ever seen in reality?
Apart from what you’ve seen, it’s worth noting that the filmmaker initially shared just a part of the script with Sumanth. Swiftly recognizing this was an incomplete portrayal, Sumanth declined the project. In a subsequent interview, he expressed his remorse for passing up on such a film, as he would have reconsidered had he known the full script beforehand.
Later on, I was fortunate enough to be invited to collaborate on an exciting project, which I gladly accepted. Once I joined the team, it marked the beginning of a remarkable journey that ultimately became legend. Reflecting back on that time, the action-thriller we created went on to earn approximately Rs 39.50 crores worldwide, making it the third highest grossing Telugu film of 2007.
The movie played for more than 150 days in theaters, generating an enormous positive reaction at the ticket counter across different regions.
In addition to Allu Arjun, the film Desamuduru also featured actors such as Hansika Motwani, Ali, Paruchuri Venkateswara Rao, Chandra Mohan, Devan, Pradeep Rawat, Subbaraju, Ajay, Srinivasa Reddy, Venu Madhav, and several others.
It was written and directed by Puri Jagannadh and produced under the banner of Universal Media.
Now, with much anticipation from fans, Desamuduru has been re-released once more. As a result, cinemas are bustling, allowing viewers to reminisce over one of Allu Arjun’s finest films so far.
