Actress Denise Richards has shared insights into her 2006 divorce with Charlie Sheen, admitting that this event temporarily hampered her acting progression for a while.

What did Denise Richards say about her divorce?

In a recent chat on The Skinny Confidential Him & Her Podcast (reported by TMZ), Richards revealed that after her divorce from Sheen, she encountered numerous challenges and struggled to secure employment for a while.

Richards shared, “Going through my divorce from Charlie was quite challenging, and it significantly impacted my career. I faced difficulties finding employment because people thought I was trying to undermine Charlie Sheen, who was popular at that time. It wasn’t just the network or studio; it was also a different era with different industry dynamics.

In 2001, Richard and Sheen started dating, and they got married the following year. Together, they have two kids. However, in 2005, Richard filed for divorce from Sheen and also requested a restraining order due to threatening messages she claimed were sent by him, indicating he was a danger to her life.

2006 saw the conclusion of their divorce, at which point Sheen was mandated to maintain a distance of 300 feet from Richards and was granted supervised visits with their shared kids. In 2010, Sheen relinquished legal guardianship of their children to Richards.

In the meantime, Richardson appeared on the reality show “Denise Richards: It’s Complicated”, and subsequently secured more job opportunities.

Richards explained, “Things were tough for me, so I became a parent to two girls. At that point, Eloise wasn’t born yet, and I had to keep working.” She continued, “I starred in my reality show, but it eventually transformed. Later on, I was given the opportunity to return to acting, as I found it necessary to be authentic on that show. This was due to the numerous unfavorable stories about me that were circulating in the tabloids.

During that period, Charlie Sheen was a prominent figure in Hollywood, headlining the popular CBS sitcom Two and a Half Men. However, during the 2000s, Sheen grappled with addiction issues. In 2009, he was apprehended by police for allegedly assaulting his then-wife, Brooke Mueller. The following year, he was also detained by the NYPD due to property damage at a hotel while under the influence of alcohol.
