Delta Force’s co-op campaign is a challenging add-on for the first-person shooter

As a dedicated fan, it’s been a thrill experiencing the full release of Delta Force just last month, reviving an iconic first-person shooter series from the late 90s and early 2000s. Now, the creative minds at Team Jade are introducing a fresh game mode in Black Hawk Down, drawing inspiration from the legendary 2003 original. Recently, I was granted early access to try out a few missions during a sneak peek of Black Hawk Down’s co-op campaign.

In Delta Force’s “Black Hawk Down” campaign, you’ll face AI opponents across different stages that mirror a real-life military operation. Yet, this game is primarily designed for teamwork, allowing groups of four players to join forces. Before jumping into action, each player picks their role, which comes with unique weapons, gear, and additional perks such as extra ammo.

In each mission, there are numerous tasks that gamers need to accomplish sequentially to succeed. At one point, my team started in a building that had been partially demolished, moving from floor to floor before finally exiting. As we moved past windows, soldiers on a distant rooftop targeted us. The AI opponents in Black Hawk Down are exceptionally accurate, making it risky to remain exposed for even a few seconds; an unseen enemy can quickly eliminate you with a well-placed shot. We were consistently communicating our enemy sightings and sought cover whenever possible.

Out on the street, soldiers offered cordial protection by hiding behind vehicles as relentless gunfire echoed from overhead positions. An adversary on a rooftop unleashed an RPG towards us, instantly causing chaos for our team. When a comrade falls, there’s only a short window for allies to revive them before death becomes permanent. Cruel enemies don’t spare a thought for medics attempting resuscitation in the heat of battle, so we employed smoke grenades to establish cover as we helped each other up.

In this game, each life is limited, making every death significant. Additionally, resources like bandages and ammo are scarce. At the start of each mission, players get a set amount of these supplies, so they must be conserved throughout the level. As an assault class, I had additional ammunition that I could share with my teammates when needed.

In Delta Force’s campaign, the ruthless hostility from adversaries and the scarcity of supplies make it an extremely tough PvE (Player vs Environment) experience. The developers mentioned that they don’t assume players will conquer a level on their initial try. Black Hawk Down, with its competitive multiplayer basis, offers a refreshing shift for the latest first-person shooter games.

At the Tencent office in Los Angeles, California, Shacknews got an early look at Black Hawk Down. The cost of my trip, including accommodation and transportation to and from the event, was covered by Tencent.
