As a die-hard fan of Rakshit Shetty, I must say that this copyright infringement case has left me quite disheartened. The man is a multitalented gem, juggling acting, directing, and producing with such finesse that it’s hard not to be in awe. His latest project, Richard Anthony, promises to be another masterpiece.
The Delhi High Court mandated that Rakshit Shetty, owner of Paramvah Studios and actor, should settle a substantial penalty due to his unauthorized usage of MRT Music’s songs in his film Bachelor Party, lacking proper approval.
A case of copyright infringement was filed against Rakshit Shetty for using the songs of MRT Music in Bachelor Party without permission. One of the partners, Naveen Kumar, of MRT Music, had complained that Rishabh Shetty and his banner, Paramvah Studios, have used music from the films Nyaya Ellide and Gaalimaathu without authorization.
In simpler terms, the Delhi High Court has instructed Rakshit Shetty and his film studio, Paramvah Studios, to pay 20 lakh rupees as a form of reparation due to a copyright infringement issue.
Rakshit Shetty and his production company, Paramvah Studios, have taken steps to justify their actions both in court and on social media platforms. On July 15, 2024, they released an open letter via an Instagram post, asserting that MRT Music had demanded a large, unreasonable fee for allowing the use of just a few seconds of music from Bachelor Party.
In response, Rakshit Shetty and Paramvah Studios were issued a court summons because they didn’t show up for their hearing. The judge also instructed Rakshit Shetty to remove an online post right away. On August 12th, the court ruled that Rakshit Shetty must pay MRT Music 20 lakh rupees for using two songs without first obtaining necessary permissions.
Rakshit Shetty, a prominent figure in the Kannada film industry known as Sandalwood, is now gearing up for the premiere of his upcoming project titled “Richard Anthony.” In this venture, he will be both directing and starring as the main character.
Beyond his work as an actor and director, Rakshit Shetty additionally functions as a movie producer through his production company, Paramvah Studios. This studio puts out several films annually, with one such release this year being Bachelor Party, which premiered in theaters in January and became available on Amazon Prime in March.
Previously, I found myself in a similar predicament as the acclaimed 2022 film Kantara encountered hurdles over the use of the song ‘Varaha Roopam.’ This melody was reportedly similar to a composition by the Kerala-based music group Thaikkudam Bridge.
