The untitled Deathstroke & Bane movie just received a massive update.
The idea for a DC Universe film was initially mentioned as being in production back in September 2024. Matthew Orton, who has previously worked on screenplays for Captain America: Brave New World and Moon Knight, was assigned to write the script, focusing on a joint appearance of two Batman villains. After ten months, it’s now up to DC Studios co-heads James Gunn and Peter Safran to review what Orton has written.
What do we know about the Deathstroke and Bane movie?
According to Umberto Gonzalez on The Box Office Podcast (via source X), writer Orton has delivered a script for the Deathstroke and Bane film, which has been submitted to Gunn and Safran. As Gunn previously mentioned, no DC film will start production unless they are completely happy with the screenplay. If Orton’s script is of high quality, there’s a good possibility that the Deathstroke & Bane movie could be among the upcoming DC Universe films to begin production.
Among three DC Universe films underway that delve into the Batman legend, Deathstroke and Bane are two of them. The other two projects are Clayface and The Brave and the Bold. As for the status of these movies, Clayface is the most advanced in production. It has a director (James Watkins), leading actor (Tom Rhys Harries), production start date (August 2025), and release date (September 11, 2026) already scheduled.
The story of “The Brave and the Bold” differs from what was initially expected. Since it was one of the first ten titles revealed for the DC Universe, its development has been enveloped in secrecy. Only the appointment of Andy Muschietti as director has been confirmed by DC Studios. As for the script, Gunn mentioned that a screenwriter remains undisclosed is working on it. The upcoming movie will feature Batman discovering that he has a son, Damian, who was born to Talia al Ghul.
Without any significant news about The Brave and the Bold, some DC enthusiasts are now pondering if Batman might first appear in live-action through either Clayface or Deathstroke and Bane. While it’s been confirmed that Batman won’t feature in the R-rated horror film Clayface, there’s still a possibility he could show up in Deathstroke & Bane, given that the movie is kept quite secretive.
As an enthusiastic supporter, I can’t wait to delve deeper into the lore of the upcoming DCU films. However, until then, the next live-action outing for Batman that’s set in stone is none other than The Batman Part II, slated to grace our screens on October 1, 2027, in an Elseworlds tale.
