Approximately a year and a half ago, Kojima Productions revealed their collaboration with A24 for a Death Stranding movie, and this week, they’ve appointed the director for it. Michael Sarnoski, who has previously directed A Quiet Place: Day One, has been chosen to helm the Death Stranding film adaptation. He will commence work on the project following completion of his ongoing film titled The Death of Robin Hood.
This week, Deadline announced that Michael Sarnoski is now attached to the project, having gained recognition after several notable films such as his debut movie “Pig,” released in 2021 and starring Nicolas Cage. Additionally, his involvement with “A Quiet Place: Day One,” which grossed an impressive $250 million at global box offices, has further cemented his reputation.
Set for a cinematic debut in December 2023, the Death Stranding film has high expectations to meet. The game, launched with acclaim in 2019, boasted an illustrious cast including Norman Reedus, Léa Seydoux, Nicolas Winding Refn, Guillermo Del Toro, and Troy Baker, delivering stellar performances. Its success even paved the way for a sequel, slated for release in June 2025, which seems to be an expanded version of the original game.
Michael Sarnoski faces a challenging task, yet the rich source material promises an engaging movie experience. Fingers crossed, Death Stranding will prove to be a compelling watch once released. Keep an eye out for further news regarding Death Stranding’s production.
