Death Stranding 2 playtests are “positive,” but Kojima wishes it was “a bit more controversial”

The anticipated sequel to Death Stranding, set to launch on June 26th, 2025, is one of the year’s most eagerly awaited games. While the original game sparked a wide range of opinions from “amazing” to “boring walking simulator,” early playtests for Death Stranding 2 have garnered more favorable reviews, though creator Hideo Kojima expresses a hope that it remains a bit more contentious.

In an interview with EDGE magazine for its latest issue, Hideo Kojima discussed the upcoming release of Death Stranding 2. In contrast to the mixed reactions during playtests for the original Death Stranding, where only four out of ten testers enjoyed the game, Kojima noted that feedback for Death Standing 2: On the Beach has been overwhelmingly positive.

In his confession, Kojima acknowledged, “I’m not aiming to create something that pleases everyone, but I also can’t risk failing. I need to consider my studio, my team, and our financial resources.

In an interview, as reported by VGC, Kojima shared that his goal for Death Stranding 2 and other projects is to create something fresh and innovative, rather than merely replicating existing concepts.

The launch date for Death Stranding 2 is set for June 26th. To assist newcomers who haven’t played the first game, there will be a recap included. Although Death Stranding 2 has not been released yet, Kojima already has an exciting concept for Death Stranding 3; however, someone else will be tasked with its creation.

Elsewhere regarding PlayStation updates, the launch date for Ghost of Yotei has been officially announced, while Sony is contemplating additional potential hikes in the PS5’s price due to U.S. tariffs.
