As a long-time fan of both Marvel and Wesley Snipes’ iconic portrayal of Blade, I must say that his cameo in Deadpool & Wolverine was nothing short of electrifying! The man who first brought the vampire hunter to life on the big screen in 1998 has proven time and again that he can deliver a performance that leaves us craving for more.
The recent Marvel Cinematic Universe sensation, “Deadpool & Wolverine“, has left fans spellbound with its witty humor and well-executed surprise appearances. A variety of unanticipated actors and characters made an appearance in this film, such as Henry Cavill playing a Wolverine variant and Chris Evans as Johnny Storm. One particular cameo that stood out to everyone was Blade, played by Wesley Snipes. Interestingly, his role in the movie led by Ryan Reynolds was initially thought to be improbable, as revealed by the seasoned actor himself.
Wesley Snipes wasn’t sure Blade’s cameo was possible in Deadpool & Wolverine
In a recent interview, Wesley Snipes revealed that he was skeptical about his chances of reprising his role as Blade on the big screen.
Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Snipes shared that it all began with a message from Ryan Reynolds. He went on to express his initial skepticism about the project’s success, but if given the opportunity, he was ready to take up the task.
Regarding his appearance in Blade, Wesley Snipes said, “I never thought it could happen. I didn’t believe he would be able to play the role so well. I wasn’t sure Marvel was on board. But Disney was. Plus, they had Mahershala cast for a future version, which seemed unusual to me.”
As a devoted admirer, I must confess my excitement when Wesley Snipes, initially showing some reservation, graced our screens in a memorable appearance as Blade in Deadpool & Wolverine. His first stint as the vampire hunter was in 1998’s Blade, directed by Stephen Norrington, and he later returned to the role for two sequels. Over the years, Snipes garnered significant praise for his portrayal of this Marvel anti-hero, with the trilogy cultivating a passionate fanbase that remains dedicated to this day.
2019 saw Marvel officially announcing a fresh take on Blade, with Mahershala Ali stepping into the role originally played by Wesley Snipes. Production on this film has encountered several challenges, leading to repeated delays in its release. As of now, it’s slated for a premiere on November 7, 2025.
