As a dedicated Dead By Daylight player who’s been through numerous updates and chapters since its release, I must admit, the rumors about DBD Mobile potentially shutting down have me a bit worried. I remember the excitement when Apex Legends Mobile launched, only to be met with its sudden closure in 2023. It seems like a recurring trend for high-profile multiplayer games on mobile to vanish without a trace.
It’s clear that Dead By Daylight, an incredibly popular multiplayer horror game enjoyed on consoles and PC alike, has gained such a following that it prompted the development of a mobile version to draw in even more gamers. At this point, no official news has been announced, but there are whispers and speculation among leakers suggesting that Dead By Daylight Mobile might be facing closure.
As a gaming enthusiast immersed in the thrilling world of Dead By Daylight, I can’t help but feel a surge of anticipation. While mobile gamers seem to be on pause, us console and PC players are about to embark on an exhilarating journey. The long-awaited 2v8 mode is just around the corner, along with the release of Chapter 34 Public Test Build (PTB), which is less than a week away! And let me tell you, there’s even more exciting content lined up in the November 2024 roadmap that we’ve caught a glimpse of so far.
DBD players have a lot to anticipate for the remainder of Year 9 and the eventual arrival of Year 10, but for Mobile it’s possible nothing is coming but an abrupt end.
Is Dead By Daylight Mobile shutting down?
It’s important to note that neither Behavior Interactive nor NetEase has confirmed Dead By Daylight Mobile is closing down. Nevertheless, there seems to be a lot of discussion among fans suggesting that production might come to a full stop eventually.
On October 20th, the individual known as Dvveet, who leaks information about DBD (Dead by Daylight), revealed that questions regarding the game’s future have been removed. Additionally, no new chapter or character has been introduced since July 4th, and the dispute that started on September 5th had its October 31st resolution date pushed back to March 20th of next year.
Beyond what’s already been mentioned, Dvveet noted on October 21st that the Content Creator program has ceased operation. This additional information appears to indicate a strong likelihood of an abrupt halt in production.
According to RuthlessLeaks’ report on October 18th, it appears that NetEase has been uncommunicative and has stopped providing information to official content creators, leaving us all in the dark about their current activities.
Ruthlessly commented, “I’m not absolutely certain if the mobile service will be discontinued, but the leakage of information is minimal and the inside scoop remains unclear.
Based on recent discussions from Dvveet and Ruthless, there have been no changes in DBD Mobile. However, some enthusiasts on the game’s subreddit seem to believe that a shutdown may be imminent. For now, an official announcement regarding the end of service has not been made.
If Dead By Daylight Mobile were to close, it would serve as yet another instance where a well-known multiplayer game’s mobile adaptation bit the dust. The closure of Apex Legends Mobile in 2023 left many within the Apex community disappointed, even though it ranked as the “top six highest-grossing mobile games in 2022”.
