DC fans shouldn’t expect much from DC Studios and James Gunn at the upcoming San Diego Comic-Con.
Gunn, who jointly heads DC Studios with Peter Safran, has unveiled their plans for SDCC 2025. Although Superman’s film is slated to hit theaters two weeks prior to the start of SDCC 2025 on July 24, the initial movie in the DC Universe will not be the main event at DC Studios’ panel. Instead, Gunn has indicated that the eagerly awaited second season of Peacemaker is expected to dominate the panel discussion.
What will be at DC Studios’ SDCC 2025 panel?
James Gunn stated on Threads that it’ll only be him, John Cena, and Peacemaker for their DC Comic-Con (SDCC) plans. Although the panel might primarily focus on Peacemaker Season 2, Gunn promises to discuss everything, indicating there will be minor updates about other parts of the DC Universe too. However, it’s important to note that the event won’t likely match the scale of Marvel Studios’ Hall H panels in the past.
In a recent conversation with Entertainment Weekly, Gunn revealed fresh insights about Peacemaker Season 2. He affirmed that the upcoming season unfolds approximately two years after the initial one, and the occurrences from the first season will be re-contextualized as belonging to the DC Universe, with some slight alterations. As he put it, “I’ve learned, having spent so much time at Marvel, how challenging it can be to make everything cohesively fit together, so it’s a span of a couple of years that isn’t precisely defined.”
In a recent reveal, it’s been disclosed that Michael Rooker will embody the role of Red St. Wild in Peacemaker, a character who will create conflict with the series’ eagle sidekick, Eagly, throughout the show’s season. Director James Gunn described this character as an expert eagle hunter from around the world.
In the upcoming season, it’s Eagly who will have a separate plotline, and this decision was made because Eagly seems to be the most beloved character from the first season. In the second season, he will have his own adventure involving his arch-enemy, skillfully portrayed by Michael Rooker, a character known for his villainous role.
In a new turn of events, Red St. Wild will be Redd’s third character in the DC Universe. Previously, he lent his voice to Sam Fitzgibbon in Creature Commandos and Kryptonian Robot #5 for the upcoming Superman. Additionally, he brought Savant to life in the DC Extended Universe film The Suicide Squad.
The 2025 San Diego Comic-Con runs from Thursday, July 24 to Sunday, July 27, 2025.
