DBD cross-progression is finally here, but Switch players have it rough

As a longtime Dead by Daylight (DBD) fan, I’m thrilled about the recent developments in the game, especially the upcoming 2v8 mode and new chapters like The Casting of Frank Stone and Dead by Daylight x CastleVania. However, my excitement is tinged with disappointment for Nintendo Switch players due to the cross-progression caveats exclusively for that platform.

Last week, BeHaviour Interactive held a Dead By Daylight livestream to showcase their upcoming 2v8 mode and discuss Tome 20’s introduction along with Lara Croft’s arrival. During the stream, they announced that cross-progression for DBD would be available on consoles and PC starting July 22nd. However, there’s a significant catch for Nintendo Switch users: Cross-progression for Dead By Daylight on Nintendo Switch is yet to be confirmed.

Last week’s livestream was an enjoyable experience, where we learned that 2v8 mode will be released on July 25th and The Casting of Frank Stone is scheduled for September 3rd. No other events or launches were discussed during the stream, but based on our earlier anniversary stream, a new CastleVania chapter is on its way.

Excitedly speaking, we can’t contain our eagerness for the Dead by Daylight x CastleVania collaboration, along with the introduction of 2v8 mode and The Casting of Frank Stone spin-off. Fortunately, prior to these releases, we now have the convenience of cross-progression at hand.

As a seasoned gamer with years of experience under my belt, I’m thrilled to share some exciting news with you all! Cross-Progression is finally coming, and I can’t contain my excitement. To make the most of this game-changing feature, I strongly recommend taking the following steps to prepare:

According to the FAQ’s explanation, it is only permitted to connect and synchronize a single platform account at a time. For instance, you can link and sync just one Steam account, one Epic Games account, and one Xbox account, but you cannot synchronize two Steam accounts or multiple accounts from any other platform.

Based on my personal experience and understanding of the FAQ, I’ve encountered situations where I’ve linked multiple platforms to my BeHaviour account for convenience. However, I’ve recently learned that once you’ve synced these accounts, there’s no going back. It can be a frustrating realization, especially if you accidentally synced an account you didn’t intend to or if you want to disconnect one for privacy reasons. So, if you’re considering linking multiple platforms to BeHaviour, make sure you’re absolutely certain about your decision as there seems to be no way to “unsync” them afterwards.

In summary, BeHaviour ensures that the maximum character levels and perks are transferred across platforms. Therefore, “if Jake’s character level is 50 on Steam and 3 on Xbox, his level will be 50 on all synced platforms.”

DBD cross-progression caveats for Nintendo Switch

On Nintendo Switch, Dead by Daylight’s cross-progression has some unique considerations that differ from other platforms.

According to the FAQ, you can combine the total number of Auric Cells from your Xbox, PlayStation, and PC accounts. However, this feature is not available for the Nintendo Switch. The FAQ states that “Auric Cells on Nintendo Switch remain with the platform account and cannot be transferred or shared”.

Unfortunately, there’s an added complication. You have the flexibility to transfer DLC among PlayStation, Xbox, and PC platforms. Moreover, you can even bring DLC you possess on PlayStation over to a Nintendo Switch. However, a limitation exists – if you acquire DLC for Dead by Daylight on your Nintendo Switch account, you’re unable to share it with another platform.

Starting July 22nd, Dead by Daylight will introduce Cross-Progression. Here’s what you should know about this exciting upcoming feature!

The Reddit community is criticizing Nintendo more than BeHaviour over the cross-progression issues. Many users are expressing their disappointment and annoyance with comments like “We Switch players got dealt several losses” and “I’ve calculated, I’ve spent approximately 200 dollars on the Switch for skins, characters, and the rift pass, only to be met with a major letdown and unable to transfer a significant portion of it to my PS5.”

For Switch users, it’s unfortunate that this problem seems to originate with Nintendo instead of Behaviour. However, let’s not forget that Nintendo is responsible for the Switch console. Despite this setback, the implementation of cross-progression is an exciting development long awaited by the community.
