After a considerable absence, Peter Reckell has returned to Days of Our Lives as Bo Brady, finding himself out of touch with many events that unfolded during his time away. In a recent interview, the actor discussed the passing of Victor and Doug while he was gone, as well as the unfortunate death of Drake Hogestyn, who portrays John Black on the show.

As a dedicated viewer, I’ve missed Bo Brady, played by Peter Reckell, since his departure in 2023. After being shot and slipping into a coma for what felt like an eternity, it was a relief to see him return to the show. Yet, the joy was tinged with sadness. It’s great that Bo is back with Hope (Kristian Alfonso), but it also means I’ve missed out on many significant events during his absence. Key characters have passed away, and heartfelt goodbyes were said.

In a recent chat with Sopa Opera Digest, Peter Reckell shared his feelings of sorrow as he watched these major exits and passings from the sidelines.

Speaking of those times when I was absent from X (previously known as Twitter) and witnessed events unfolding without my presence for about two years, it was quite challenging. So many significant things took place…Watching from the sidelines as these events transpired…DAYS is like a family to me, and it was really tough not being part of it, particularly for dear colleagues such as John [Aniston], Bill [Hayes], and Peggy [McCay].

He went on to say, “During my stay, there were individuals who didn’t have the chance to be included. However, the writers skillfully addressed the significant aspects of the relationships between my father [Victor] and Doug. This kind of work is truly satisfying. Yet, it was bittersweet because it revolved around people I hold dear…As an actor, I thought, ‘This is great material.’ But as a person, it was deeply moving.

During Peter Reckell’s tragic coma, he missed out on Drake Hogestyn’s last days portraying John Black. In the same interview, he conveyed his regret about this unfortunate circumstance.
