Abe Carver, played by James Reynolds, and Paulina Price, portrayed by Jackée Harry, have been one of the most beloved couples on Days of Our Lives. The show is all set to mark their third anniversary in the June 20th episode. Both Reynolds and Harry are excited for their characters and shared their thoughts about it during a recent interview.
James Reynolds says Abe and Paulina’s wedding in Days of Our Lives was important for African American history
In their many years together since their marriage, Abe and Paulina are quite distinctive as a couple. During an interview prior to their third anniversary on the show, Harry and Reynolds talked about their relationship. Reynolds described them as vibrant and varied, stating that they aren’t identical but rather have unique personalities, drives, and experiences. He went on to say that this difference, or opposite attracts, is what makes them special.
1) The actors appear to hold deep respect for one another and their roles. After a long hiatus, Harry made a comeback on the soap opera. She openly expressed her joy at being teamed up with James Reynolds. “He is exactly as he seems, which is fantastic,” she said. “He immediately welcomed me. He shared some knowledge. He doesn’t realize it, but I was observing him since the very first day, because many believe soap operas are effortless — they aren’t.
One advantageous move Days of Our Lives made with this couple was infusing cultural importance into their marriage, symbolically choosing June 19 as their wedding day, which holds significant meaning for the actors and potentially a substantial number of viewers too.
The performers explored and highlighted the significance of this topic. I found it revealing that the production demonstrated a profound grasp of African-American and American history. I always make it a point to stress – and I want to be unequivocal about this – they are essentially identical, particularly in today’s context,” Reynolds pointed out.
He went on saying, “It was such an immense honor and joy for us to be part of celebrating a freshly minted national holiday, which is still relatively new, and it’s heartening that the show acknowledges its significance. Every year, we find ways to incorporate references to Juneteenth into our work, not just once but multiple times.
Fortunately, Abe and Paulina continue to have a robust relationship, and it appears that their situation is improving even more.
