David Hockney To Take Over Louis Vuitton Foundation

At the age of 87, renowned painter David Hockney is set to display one of his most extensive exhibitions to date. This coming spring, the artist will occupy the entire Louis Vuitton Foundation building, presenting an exhibition called “David Hockney, 25.

In his statement, Hockney expressed that this exhibition holds great significance for him as it is the largest one he’s ever had, spanning 11 rooms at the Fondation Louis Vuitton. Some of my latest works will be showcased there, and I anticipate it to be excellent.

Under the guidance of artistic director Suzanne Pagé, along with guest curators Sir Norman Rosenthal and François Michaud, David Hockney was a significant contributor to the development of this exhibition. His partner, Jean-Pierre Gonçalves de Lima, who also serves as his studio manager, plays a crucial role in the show. The primary focus of the exhibit lies on Hockney’s works from the 21st century; however, it also honors his renowned early pieces.

As we focus on his later works, a significant number of them showcase David Hockney’s digital tablet drawings, such as portraits of family members, friends, and the “220 for 2020 series.” Despite being created digitally, these iPad paintings will be printed and framed next to his traditional artworks.

As a versatile artist who delves into multiple disciplines, Hockney has additionally channeled his passion for opera to craft a rich sensory environment. Gallery 10 intends to draw inspiration from the set designs that Hockney has been developing since the 70s, enveloping visitors in an entirely fresh audio-visual spectacle.
