On May 16, 2025, TMZ announced that David Geffen, a media tycoon, filed for divorce from his partner David Armstrong, also known as Donovan Michaels. People magazine obtained the divorce documents, revealing that Armstrong did not have a prenuptial agreement at the time of their marriage in 2023. The reason given by Geffen for their split is “irreconcilable differences.” Notably, Geffen is being represented by well-known celebrity divorce attorney Laura Wasser during this process. They set the date of their separation as February 22, 2025.
Despite Forbes valuing Geffen’s net worth at approximately $8.7 billion, he primarily earns income from stocks and other equities since his retirement more than 15 years ago. Given California law, dividends derived from stocks are considered separate property, implying Armstrong won’t receive significant assets from Geffen. However, Armstrong will get spousal support for half the duration of the marriage, which amounts to one year. Moreover, the divorce filing indicates that Geffen will cover Armstrong’s attorney fees as well.
