As a dedicated fan who has followed Dave Bautista‘s journey as Drax in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), it is heartbreaking to witness his longing for closure and the family environment that the Guardians franchise provided him. It’s not just about playing the role of Drax, but rather the camaraderie and shared experiences with the talented cast and crew that he cherishes.
It’s been over one year since Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, and Dave Bautista is now reflecting on his MCU run as Drax.
Why Did Dave Bautista Not Have Closure as Drax During MCU Run?
During a chat with The Hollywood Reporter, Bautista expressed that it’s the folks associated with the Guardians series he longs for, rather than the character of Drax itself
Bautista expressed, “I wouldn’t use the word ‘miss’ regarding Drax, but what I do feel a sense of loss for is the family-like camaraderie we shared on set. It’s tough accepting that we won’t be working together again, knowing it will be the last time for me, Chris, Zoe, Pom, Karen, Sean Gunn, and James Gunn. That reality is hard to accept.”
If there’s one thing Bautista wishes he had, it’s closure.
Bautista added, “I never truly had a proper ending to that phase of my career. Although it’s over now and in the past, I didn’t get a chance to bid farewell to everyone. I missed out on attending the premiere, enjoying with everyone, shedding tears, and saying goodbye. That moment was something I never experienced.”

“Thus, our last shooting session took place in Hollywood, and we concluded around 3 or 4 in the morning. Following that, I had to swiftly dash to the hotel, grab my belongings, hop on a plane, and jet off to Philadelphia to begin work on Knock at the Cabin two days later,” Bautista explained. “Consequently, I didn’t have an opportunity to bid farewell to everyone. I was whisked away from the set to another film. I was then involved in another production, and I missed out on press engagements and the premiere for Guardians 3.”
Bautista remarked, “A significant portion of me feels unresolved. I never truly had a chance to bid farewell to that character and the cast, and there will always be an element of sadness as I reflect on it.”
In just a while, you’ll see Bautista starring in “The Killer’s Game,” an action-comedy movie that officially hits theaters on September 13, 2024
