As a seasoned investigative journalist with decades of experience under my belt, I can confidently say that the story of the supposed drowning accident during a romantic sunset cruise in Idaho was anything but ordinary. Upon initial investigation, it appeared to be just another tragic incident, but as the pieces started falling into place, it quickly became clear that something far more sinister was at play. As I delved deeper into the case, I found myself questioning everything I thought I knew about the victims and their seemingly idyllic lives. This is a story that will keep you on the edge of your seat, filled with twists and turns that will leave you guessing until the very end.

In a recent trial, Lori, who is now known as Larry Isenberg’s killer, stated that they were enjoying a sunrise sail on Lake Coeur d’Alene when Larry tragically drowned in February 2018. However, it was later discovered that Lori was under investigation for fraud and theft charges related to the North Idaho Housing Coalition, where she had been stealing money. Following the discovery of Larry’s body, an autopsy revealed that he died as a result of diphenhydramine toxicity due to an overdose of the antihistamine Benadryl.

Subsequently, it came to the authorities’ attention that Lori Isenberg engaged in questionable actions following Larry’s demise. These activities encompassed altering his will, emptying their shared bank accounts, and reassigning their jointly owned community properties to herself. Notably, she was already incarcerated in a federal penitentiary when the prosecution leveled charges against her for Larry’s homicide. Lori subsequently opted for an Alford Plea in response to a second-degree murder accusation.

Larry Isenberg’s killer: Where is Lori Isenberg now?

As reported by the Idaho Department of Corrections, Lori Isenberg (also known as Laurcene Barnes Isenberg), who is responsible for Larry Isenberg’s death, is currently serving her sentence at the Pocatello Women’s Correctional Center. In 2021, she admitted the charges against her through an Alford Plea, which resulted in a minimum prison term of 30 years. The crime she was convicted of was second-degree murder. Lori will be eligible for parole on February 22, 2050.

It was previously established that Lori Isenberg was already serving time in federal prison when she was accused of Larry’s murder. In 2019, she admitted guilt to three charges of wire fraud and one charge of theft from a federal program. For her actions involving the embezzlement of large sums from her employer, North Idaho Housing Coalition (NIHC), Lori was sentenced to serve five years in prison. Her daughters were also implicated in the crime and received sentences of probation and home confinement instead.

In February 2020, prosecutors accused Lori of killing Larry Isenberg in the first degree for his death. According to The Spokesman-Review, Dean Isenberg, Larry’s son, stated that when it became impossible to conceal her embezzling actions any longer, she ended Larry’s life. Dean had also shared with investigators that Larry would have divorced Lori if he had discovered the embezzlement. In simpler terms, Lori was charged for murdering Larry because it was revealed she had been stealing money and to hide this, she killed him. Dean mentioned that Larry would have left her if he found out about the theft.

According to reports, Lori Isenberg first stated that Larry accidentally fell from their boat in Lake Coeur d’Alene. She suggested he was trying to repair a malfunctioning motor when he slipped and drowned. Approximately two hours later, Lori contacted emergency services (911). During an initial search, authorities were unable to locate Larry, but they persisted in their efforts to find him.

Subsequently, following Larry Isenberg’s suspected drowning, authorities apprehended Lori on charges of embezzlement. She was accused of numerous instances of forgery and theft, having misappropriated hundreds of thousands of dollars from NIHC. Shortly thereafter, officials discovered Larry’s body floating in the lake. An autopsy revealed that he had died from an overdose of diphenhydramine, with 7,000 nanograms found in his system – a level 70 times higher than medical recommendations. Moreover, the report indicated no signs suggesting drowning was the cause of death.

As a seasoned detective with over two decades of experience, I have seen my fair share of criminal cases, but none quite like this one. The case of Lori Isenberg was particularly intriguing, given her complex personal life and seemingly endless list of transgressions.

In the course of examining Larry Isenberg’s murder case, investigators uncovered damaging proof implicating Lori. As reported by Sportskeeda, she emptied their shared bank accounts, modified Larry’s will by hand, and altered its distribution so that 80% of his assets went to her biological kids, almost nothing was left for the victim’s offspring. Additionally, authorities discovered suspicious web searches related to water currents, drowning, boat rentals, and boating accidents, which she conducted before Larry’s mysterious demise.

Apart from this, Lori Isenberg emailed NIHC, vowing to repay the money she had taken dishonestly. This email was sent a day following Larry Isenberg’s demise. The content of the email went as follows: “Given our recent circumstances, you are aware that Larry and I were involved in an unfortunate incident yesterday.” She expressed her remorse and pledged to make amends. At one point, she stated, “I will be able to repay everything once I manage to sell my house.”

In the end, Lori Isenberg confessed that she was the one who caused Larry’s demise. She revealed that she had intentionally prepared a toxic drink meant for her own suicide, but unfortunately, it was Larry who ended up drinking it and perished instead.

On Thursday, August 1, join us for a captivating exploration into the circumstances surrounding Larry Isenberg’s tragic demise and the accusations against his alleged murderer on Oxygen’s Unforgettable series.
