As a gamer who has spent countless hours navigating through post-apocalyptic worlds, I can’t help but feel a sense of familiarity when diving into the universe of “The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon.” The introduction of Clémence Poésy’s character, Isabelle, in “The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon – The Book of Carol” has been a refreshing addition to the series.
British-French actress Clémence Poésy made her debut in the universe of “The Walking Dead” during the initial season of its fifth spinoff, titled “The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon“. This series revolves around the main character, Daryl Dixon, played by Norman Reedus, who finds himself on an unforeseen trip to France. Throughout his journey, he interacts with numerous individuals, some of whom are friends and others foes. Among these new acquaintances is Isabelle, portrayed by Poésy.
During his travels in France, Daryl initially met Isabelle – a woman who previously led a very different life from being a nun. Prior to the crisis, Isabelle was known for her drug addiction, wild partying, and petty theft, often battling with suicidal thoughts that she had attempted to act upon at least once. However, despite these flaws, Isabelle held a deep affection and concern for her sister Lily, who tragically passed away during the crisis while giving birth. Moved by this loss, Isabelle sought redemption and entered the Abbey of Saint Bernadette, where she resided with her nephew, Laurent.
Isabelle, along with her fellow nuns and the leaders of their organization, the Union of Hope, firmly believe that Laurent was predestined to save mankind because his mother was bitten and transformed while she carried him in her womb. To guarantee a safe journey for everyone, Isabelle sought assistance from Daryl for their travel to The Nest, which serves as the headquarters for the Union of Hope.
Upon reaching The Nest, Daryl pondered his first objective: heading back home to reunite with his family. Throughout their voyage, Daryl, Isabelle, and Laurent grew particularly close, making it difficult for him to decide on his next course of action. There seems to be a bond between Daryl and Isabelle, while Laurent regards Daryl as a mentor or father figure. This emotional entanglement further complicates his decision-making process. In the end, he chooses to depart without bidding farewell. Upon discovering this, Isabelle expresses her opinion that he found what he was searching for upon leaving the Commonwealth, despite it not being what he anticipated. She also hints at guilt by suggesting he is deserting Laurent much like his own father did to him. In the end, Daryl decides to leave regardless, and Isabelle wishes him well on his journey, expressing her happiness that they crossed paths.

Among the standout moments of the second season is the reappearance of Melissa McBride as Carol Peletier, a long-standing friend of Daryl. Although showrunner David Zabel has mentioned no intentions for a romantic entanglement between them, he subtly suggests a possible development between Daryl and Isabelle. It’s intriguing to see where their relationship might lead in the coming season.
Poésy shared a little insight into what viewers can expect from Isabelle in season 2 with EW.
“There’s a lot of doubt,” teases Posey. “She starts questioning what she has believed for years, starts seeing the flaws, the cracks in the dogma that has kept her going for so long. It’s always interesting taking a character through that kind of journey.”
