Darth Maul Disney+ Show Will Explore Star Wars Villain’s Humanity

As a die-hard Star Wars enthusiast, I’m thrilled about Sam Witwer, the man behind our beloved character Maul in the upcoming Disney+ series Star Wars: Maul — Shadow Lord, sharing some exclusive insights into the show and what awaits us with this iconic figure.

What should we expect from the Darth Maul Disney+ Show?

During his interview on Katee Sackhoff’s show, Witwer mentioned that the forthcoming series would delve into a less benevolent aspect of Maul, but also explore some of his underlying human traits.

In simpler terms, “Witwer stated through Culture Crave that our story isn’t about revealing Maul as a cuddly toy. Instead, we aren’t softening his image. However, from the Sith point of view, there are imperfections in this character. There’s an element of humanity that surfaces at different times due to his past experiences.

In addition, Witwer mentioned that the series will explore Maul’s doubts about the current state of the Empire. More precisely, the era when Maul gained power differs significantly from the Empire as it stands now, potentially causing Maul to question its evolution.

Witwer quoted Maul as saying, “Is this what Sidious intended? This feels a bit unsettling,” implying that Maul is concerned about the current state of the Empire. Given his background in a time of swordsmanship, sorcery, and knights, Maul questions whether this mechanized Empire aligns with their vision, expressing doubt over its rightness.
