Darshan Thoogudeepa’s interim bail likely to be canceled? Bengaluru police commissioner files new appeal to HC

As a long-time admirer of Darshan Thoogudeepa’s captivating performances and charisma, I must admit that this past year has been quite a rollercoaster for him. It seems like every time I turn on the news, there’s another twist in his tale!

On October 30, 2024, Kannada actor Darshan Thoogudeepa received a six-week interim bail in the murder case involving his fan Renukaswamy, due to medical reasons. After expressing back pain, the Karnataka High Court granted his bail request for spinal surgery.

Recently, Bengaluru’s Police Commissioner, B. Dayanand, announced during a media interaction that he intends to contest the High Court’s decision to grant bail to Darshan.

Recent findings show that the Home Department has agreed and supported the police’s request to challenge the actor’s bail revocation. By next week, a petition is planned to be submitted.

Before the Police Commissioner moved to revoke Darshan Thoogudeepa’s interim bail, the Home Minister of Karnataka, G. Parameshwara, stated that he had agreed to withdraw the bail granted to Darshan.

He informed the Home Department Secretary that it’s possible for them to file an appeal with the higher court regarding Darshan’s case, should they choose to do so.

From the medical records presented to the High Court in Karnataka, it appears that the defendant, the Kannada actor, has been experiencing intense back discomfort and some of his spinal discs have become enlarged or protruded.

In my appeal, I earnestly asked for prompt medical aid, fearing that without it, my health situation might deteriorate even further.

Following thorough deliberation, the High Court granted the defendant a six-week bail period, but with stringent conditions, particularly limiting his freedom beyond prison walls.

Darshan Thoogudeepa was allowed to pick his preferred hospital for his treatment, with the requirement that he report back on the details of the treatment he received within a week.

Recently, the Kannada actor hasn’t just faced one issue; another legal matter arose when popular TV lawyer Jagadish filed a complaint alleging threats against him. This occurred shortly after his interim bail.

In simpler terms, the former student at BB Kannada disclosed that Darshan and his supporters had consistently sent them menacing messages suggesting harm or death. Jagadish, in his report, emphasized the importance of increasing security not only for himself but also for his family, as it seemed that Darshan’s fans were specifically targeting him.
