In the wake of a distorted rendition of World War I, Chains of Lukomorye seamlessly combines historical suffering with timeless folklore.
Folklore As Enemy And Atmosphere
In this game, the setting was created by a ritual intended to bring an end to war; however, it unexpectedly shattered the fabric of our reality, enabling age-old legends to permeate contemporary decay.
Based on what the creators have disclosed, the narrative delves into topics such as sorrow, remembrance, and the fine border between fate and personal choice.

Dark Shooter Gameplay With Soulslike Influence
In terms of gameplay, Chains of Lukomorye delivers an immersive third-person shooting experience, blending it with intricate dark fantasy battle tactics reminiscent of games such as Dark Souls and Remnant II.
Contestants engage in battles against nightmarish adversaries drawn from Slavic folklore like the underworld demon known as Viy, and Kot Bayun, employing a mix of modern weaponry and legendary powers.
On their journey, the soldier finds himself in the company of Sirin, a fated prophetess from ancient Russian lore, who has chosen to travel alongside him.
After the event, an optional two-player co-op will be enabled.
A Mythic Reimagining
The title of the game, Lukomorye, is deeply rooted in Russian folklore and poetry, particularly from Alexander Pushkin’s 1820 poem “Ruslan and Lyudmila,” as evidenced by its opening verses.
“By Lukomorye stands a green oak…”
The poem paints a magical scene, complete with mystical oaks, chatty felines adorned in gold chains, and ghostly beings roaming about.
In the fictional work “Chains of Lukomorye“, the mystical coastline is transformed into a twisted, post-conflict netherworld. However, it retains recognizable features such as the golden chain, the feline figure, and ethereal beings.
The game’s visual aesthetic draws inspiration from historical paintings, as exemplified by the imposing head in promotional artwork that bears a chilling similarity to Nikolai Ge’s dramatic portrayal of the Russian myth.
Characters from classic Russian folktales like Baba Yaga, Leshy, and Wurdulac the vampire undergo chilling transformations in this ominous and magical landscape. The gameplay involves exploring haunted woodlands, desolate villages, and the remnants of a devastating conflict.
A Reimagining Of Orpheus And Eurydice
The main tale in “Chains of Lukomorye” presents a tragic retelling, viewed from a Slavic perspective, of the ancient Orpheus and Eurydice myth.
As a tormented soul, I find myself not just a soldier, but a man whose heart beats with poetry. Haunted by the horrors of war and the loss (or disappearance?) of my beloved wife, I embark on a journey deep into the enigmatic underworld of Lukomorye, seeking to rescue her from its haunting grasp.
