As a seasoned gamer with countless hours spent in the dark and twisted realms of Lordran, I can’t help but feel a surge of anticipation at the prospect of a remastered Dark Souls 3. Having first stumbled upon this masterpiece back in the days of yore (2016, for those keeping track), I’ve since then been through countless cycles of death and rebirth in its unforgiving world.
As a dedicated gamer, I’ve been eagerly awaiting updates on the Dark Souls series, and according to Nick Baker on the Xbox Era podcast, it seems that the development of Dark Souls 3’s return has already begun!
Back in 2011, I found myself utterly captivated by the groundbreaking gaming genre introduced with the release of Dark Souls. This game, from the masterminds at FromSoftware, ignited one of the most beloved franchises in the gaming world. To date, more than 10 million units of the third installment, Dark Souls 3, have been sold, making it not only a best-seller among the series but also a monumental success for FromSoftware as a whole. Now, it seems that the studio is considering revisiting this highly successful game once more.
It appears that many video game companies are currently focusing on remastering and re-releasing their most popular games, so it was inevitable that Bandai Namco and FromSoftware would eventually choose to revamp Dark Souls 3.
High resolution and frame rate
Based on Nick Baker’s statements in the most recent Xbox Era podcast, it appears that the remastering of the first two installments has been completed. Given this, it seems likely that the third installment will also receive a remaster.
Revisiting your Dark Souls 3 journey could mean experiencing it in better resolution and smoother gameplay, thanks to enhanced frame rates. Although PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series already accommodate the 60 frames-per-second format, they don’t support resolutions beyond 1080p. The remaster might be the opportunity to enjoy the game for the first time with both high resolution and high frame rates together.
