I’m sharing some news that might be of interest to fellow comic book enthusiasts. According to a recent announcement by The Verge, Dark Horse Comics‘ online service is set to wrap up at the end of this March. It’s quite a shift in our community, isn’t it?
Dark Horse Digital is closing down, which means their iOS app will no longer receive updates. Dark Horse Comics advises users to download any purchased comics by March 30th, as they will cease support for both their iOS app and the standalone Plants vs. Zombies comics app from the next day onwards.
If you create an account on the Dark Horse Digital website before the deadline, you’ll be able to access the comics you’ve purchased until at least summer 2025. Additionally, the company has mentioned that you can link your website account with their app to download issues for offline reading.
It’s implied that their comics weren’t selling well enough digitally to make a significant impact, even on other platforms. Moreover, the high prices for digital comics could deter potential buyers. Unfortunately, if their own service failed, it’s not unexpected given that they also sell PC products and there seems to be little interest from consumers.
