Daredevil’s Disastrous Launch: Is Marvel’s Brand Beyond Repair?

According to John Nolte’s report at Breitbart, the current live-action Daredevil series on Disney+’s streaming service has been receiving poor viewership ratings.

Based on information from Mouse House, the Marvel Television series attracted 7.5 million views in its initial five days on Disney+, reportedly excited Variety; however, they started the article with an obvious fabrication: “Daredevil: Born Again” had a robust debut on Disney+. (Note that I’ve used “allegedly excited” and “obviously fabricated” to convey the intended meaning without using the strong language in the original.)

If we’re not content with dwelling within the confines of Disney’s figurative behind (just like Variety might be), then let me tell you, by any measure—and I emphasize any measure—7.5 million views in a span of five days is hardly impressive.

At Park Place, they conducted thorough investigative work, analyzed data, utilized a comprehensive understanding of the situation, and presented the truth clearly.

To put things into perspective, ‘The Acolyte’ – a series that didn’t fare well and was cancelled after just one season – garnered approximately 11.1 million views during its premiere week,” the site states, further noting that this figure was deemed “disappointing as it fell short by around 3 million views compared to ‘Ahsoka’.

Despite being labeled as a major flop by many, Agatha All Along on Marvel streaming still garnered 9.3 million views within its first week.

I personally prefer to delve into the original Born Again storyline of Daredevil from the 80s, and ideally, possess it in a trade paperback format. This hints at the struggling Marvel live-action franchise, and frankly, it’s high time for its retirement. Even one of Frank Miller’s finest works from decades past deserves a more respectable adaptation than what’s currently available, and this certainly doesn’t meet that standard.

Disney can’t help themselves.
