Enthusiasts can hardly contain their excitement as they anticipate the long-awaited sequel to 28 Years Later, and have been debating about what changes the new movie might bring compared to the first two films in the series. Danny Boyle’s 28 Years Later shot with iPhone 15

28 Years After the Original: The Long-Awaited Sequel to 28 Days Later (2002) and 28 Weeks Later (2007), was recently filmed using an iPhone 15 Pro Max, as revealed by WIRED’s report. This aligns with the innovative approach taken by Doyle and Mantle during the production of 28 Days Later, where they utilized a Canon XL-1 camera, one of the first films to do so.

Filming for “28 Years Later” supposedly started in May 2024 and wrapped up in late July, but WIRED claims that the production team managed to keep it under wraps that the movie was actually shot using smartphones. Furthermore, the publication reported that crew members were required to sign non-disclosure agreements about this particular detail.

Initially, a photo apparently snapped by paparazzi surfaced from the film set. Upon careful examination of the camera equipment, it became clear that Boyle and Mantle had put an iPhone 15 Pro Max into a protective case. According to WIRED, several people linked with the movie have verified that 28 Years Later was shot using an iPhone 15 Pro Max. However, as previously stated, the filmmakers didn’t just rely on the phones; they also added various accessories to them for better results.

Films typically produced using smartphones have modest budgets. Conversely, “28 Years Later” boasts a whopping $75 million budget. This epic movie, featuring Cillian Murphy as Jim, Jodie Comer, Ralph Fiennes, and Aaron Taylor-Johnson, is set to grace US theaters on June 20, 2025.
