As someone who has spent countless hours watching the glittery world of Dancing with the Stars, I must say that this season 33 premiere was nothing short of electrifying! The energy and passion these contestants brought to the dance floor were truly remarkable.
Season 33 of Dancing with the Stars debuted on September 17, simultaneously airing on ABC and streaming on Disney+. This initial episode provided a clear glimpse into the pairings between the famous celebrities and their skilled dance partners.
The first dance is always so telling. Fans (and judges) get to see the chemistry between the couples and can guess their chances of improvement. Take Joey, for example. He came in looking nervous, and his moves were also shaky, but the judges all agree that they can see the potential. Ready to dive into all the details? Join us on the dance floor!

Joey and Jenna week 1 score: 21
Joey and Jenna commenced the new season by performing the cha-cha-cha to “Dancin’ in the Country” by Tyler Hubbard. Despite Joey appearing anxious, his apprehension didn’t hinder him from demonstrating his talent to the judges. He danced superbly with Jenna, making them a pair to watch out for! They received sevens from all judges.
Brooks and Gleb week 1 score: 18
It’s time to dance the tango! Instead of sticking with country music, Brooks and Gleb opted for pop rhythms by selecting Britney Spears’ “Piece of Me.” However, the judges didn’t seem as enthusiastic about Brooks and Gleb’s performance compared to Joey and Jenna. Each judge gave them a score of six, resulting in a total of 18 points. Not bad for a start, but I believe they will get better!
Ilona and Alan week 1 score: 18
A set of threes was handed to Ilona and Alan, who danced the cha-cha-cha to Shania Twain’s “Man! I Feel Like a Woman!” It was quite a lively performance! I even found myself tapping my fingers and moving my shoulders. At the finale, Alan lifted Ilona off her feet for a spin. Oh, Alan, your muscles certainly showed!
Reginald and Emma week 1 score: 16
It’s salsa night! Reginald and Emma were the fourth pair to take the dance floor. They performed “Motownphilly” by Boyz II Men, but their score wasn’t impressive. To be honest, I thought Reginald could have given a better performance. In reality, he didn’t seem to move his feet at all. Come on, Regi! Let’s see you shake things up next time with a little shimmy. While I don’t think Reginald and Emma will be taking home the trophy, they’ll certainly keep us entertained every time they dance. They ended up scoring 16 points. To be fair, the judges might have been showing some leniency there.
Danny and Witney week 1 score: 20
After that, it was Danny and Witney’s turn on the dance floor, and we hoped they could erase the awkwardness from Reginald and Emma’s routine. Did they succeed? Indeed! The duo performed a passionate tango to “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” by Shaboozey and David Guetta. However, the judges had mixed opinions about Danny’s performance, but he still managed to score a 20 points.
Tori and Pasha week 1 score: 17
Pasha made every effort, but unfortunately, it didn’t ease Tori’s anxiety. However, we are incredibly proud of her for stepping out there and giving her best performance. I felt the judges were a bit tough in their assessment, but considering they gave a score of 17 for their foxtrot, it’s not terrible for them. You’ll be stronger next week, Tori, I just know it! Tori and Pasha danced the Foxtrot to “Trustfall” by Pink.
Jenn and Sasha week 1 score: 19
Dancing the cha-cha-cha to “Flowers” by Miley Cyrus was a bold choice that only Sasha could help execute to perfection! Can you tell he is one of my favorite pros? And Jenn with the revenge dance and dress? Yes, girl! For so much criticism, the judges gave Jenn and Sasha a 19, one of the highest scores of the night.
Chandler and Brandon week 1 score: 23
“Hot to Go!” by Chappell Roan is one of the most popular songs right now and I’m glad Chandler and Brandon were the duo that got to cha-cha-cha to this song. And they were AMAZING! The highlight of the season 33 premiere if you want my honest opinion. I mean, their score says it all – a 23! The highest score of the premiere. Chandler and Brandon are going far this season.
Dwight and Daniella week 1 score: 22
Dwight and Daniella lively-up the place playing “This Is How We Do It” by Montell Jordan. Although they didn’t surpass Chandler and Brandon’s tally of 23, their score of 22 is a strong runner-up! Keep an eye out, Chandler and Brandon – Dwight and Daniella are breathing down your neck with some fierce competition.
Eric and Britt week 1 score: 15
Britt is incredibly talented as a dancer, yet she’s being stifled by Eric! Despite our reservations, Eric has given his all. One of my favorite songs is “Old Time Rock and Roll” by Bob Seger, and Eric significantly transformed it. However, the judges seemed unfair with their scores. Granted, Eric didn’t move as much as Reginald, but let’s not forget that Reginald was completely motionless! Eric at least showed enthusiasm, so why did he receive a lower score?
Phaedra and Val week 1 score: 19
“Hey judges, what happened with the scores? Phaedra and Val didn’t do poorly at all, scoring 19, but their performance was so enjoyable! They danced the cha-cha-cha to “I’m Every Woman” by Whitney Houston, and received two sixes and one seven. In my opinion, they deserved a perfect 20 points.
Stephen and Rylee week 1 score: 21
It seems as if “Don’t Stop Me Now” by Queen has been a staple tune for Dancing with the Stars throughout multiple seasons, and I couldn’t be happier about it! Stephen and Rylee truly nailed their performance. Rylee was spot-on for the jive’s required energy, and she complemented Stephen perfectly on the dance floor. While there’s more to winning than just joy, Stephen showed great promise. We can hardly wait to see them dance together again next week!
Anna and Ezra week 1 score: 18
Fans have been eagerly anticipating this dance following all the debate about Anna Delvey joining the cast. Pairing up with Ezra, she danced the cha-cha-cha to “Espresso” by Sabrina Carpenter. While it wasn’t the standout performance of the night, it didn’t disappoint either. With more practice, should she get another chance, Anna has the potential to improve significantly next week.
Who was eliminated on Dancing with the Stars season 33 week 1?
This week, there was no elimination! As the show started, Alfonso Ribeiro announced that no one would be leaving. Instead, all couples are returning for another week of competition. Even though there’s no elimination this time, viewers are still asked to keep voting. The votes from this week will be added to those from next week.
