As a devoted fan of Dancing With the Stars for many years now, I can confidently say that this season 33 finale was nothing short of spectacular! The energy, passion, and skill displayed by all five finalists were truly remarkable. Each one brought something unique to the dance floor, making it incredibly difficult to choose a winner.
At long last, the season 33 finale of “Dancing With the Stars” was here, and choosing a winner for the coveted Mirrorball trophy had never been more challenging. This year’s contestants were simply remarkable, and each of the five remaining couples showcased something exceptional on the dance floor. Ultimately, there could only be one victor.
Two dances were showcased, featuring first a “repetition” routine, followed by an open-style performance known as a “freestyle round”. Essentially, the repetition dance provided the celebrities with an opportunity to revisit and improve upon a difficult routine they had attempted in one of the earlier weeks.
The evening commenced with the panel reflecting on the standout qualities of each celebrity contestant – their unique personalities, dance techniques, and progress as dancers throughout the competition. Once the performance started, the pairs executed a comeback dance.
What routines did the five finalists perform and how did they do?
In simpler terms, Stephen and Rylee’s dance style was the Quickstep, as they were asked to focus on improving his rhythm because he often moved quicker than the music. His performance was fantastic, particularly in terms of timing and graceful moments on the dance floor, which left the judges impressed. The total score for the night was 29 out of 30, and when combined with his semi-final score, it resulted in a grand total of 82 points for him.
Joey and Jenna stepped up next for their debut Cha Cha dance; it was their initial dance since the show began. His performance was flawless, earning a perfect score, making his total 88 points when combined with scores from the semifinals. Overall, he’s been exceptional this season, hinting at the possibility of taking home the grand prize.
Danny and Witney’s redemption dance was a Tango, marking their first dance as partners. Since it was their inaugural performance together, Danny’s movements didn’t have the familiar ease he has developed over the course of the show. Their Tango earned them a score of 27, raising their total to 81 points.
During their redemption dance, Ilona and Alan were challenged with the Jive, one of their most challenging routines due to the frequent problems they encountered. However, in this instance, Ilona showcased an exceptional performance, resulting in a successful routine that garnered them a score of 27. This added to their total, now standing at 84.
Chandler and Brandon showcased their redemption dance as well. She consistently shone every week, growing stronger week by week, proving just how worthy she was of making it to the finals. Following an outstanding act and a flawless score, their tally climbed to 88 points.
During the breaks between the two performances, we were treated to the comeback of past celebrity dancers who showcased their moves on the dance floor. Additionally, ex-pro dancers Mark Ballas and Derek Hough performed an Argentine Tango after providing a brief history about the dance. It was an exciting act to witness before moving back to our main contenders.
Stephen and Rylee’s free-form dance received a flawless mark, as they incorporated gymnastics to create an entertaining final act. Similarly, Jenna and Joey showcased a comparable freestyle routine, using tennis rackets as props during their dance. Their performance was exceptional and garnered them a score of 29 out of 30 points.
After Danny and Witney, it was my turn to strut my stuff with a lively freestyle to “I’m Just Ken” from the Barbie movie. We nailed it so well that we scored an impressive 29 out of 30 points.
Ultimately, Chandler and Brandon achieved an historic milestone – being the first black couple to reach the finals on DWtS – by acknowledging and honoring the legacy of black dancers, tracing it back to the legendary Nicholas brothers. Their performance was nothing short of breathtakingly spectacular, resulting in a perfect score for them.
Who won Dancing With the Stars season 33?
Indeed, as the evening drew to a close, it became necessary to select a victor, despite our heartfelt desire that everyone could triumph. Who ultimately received the mirror ball trophy towards the end of the night?
The outcomes were declared, with Danny ending up in fifth position, Stephen following closely in fourth, Chandler taking third, and it was now between Ilona and Joey who remained.
In the end, it was Joey who became the first Bachelor star to win the Mirrorball.
As someone who has been a devoted fan of dance competitions for years, I must say that this year’s crop of celebrities was truly exceptional. Their dedication, passion, and sheer determination to learn and grow in their dancing abilities was a joy to watch each week. The camaraderie they shared on stage and the friendships formed off it were heartwarming, making every episode a must-see event in my weekly routine. I will surely miss the anticipation of tuning in each week to see these talented individuals dance together, creating unforgettable moments that showcased their hard work and dedication. Kudos to all the celebrities who graced us with their presence this season – you truly made this a year to remember!
