Cyberpunk 2077 devs confirm Switch 2 port is the “best way to experience the game on the go”, not Steam Deck

Among the highly anticipated launch games for the Nintendo Switch 2 is the port of Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition by CD Projekt Red. This version will not only feature the original game but also its Phantom Liberty expansion, and it will be equipped with DLSS support. Essentially, this role-playing game will find a new platform on the Nintendo handheld device.

Playing the first-person RPG on handheld PC devices like the Steam Deck and ROG Ally, among others, offers multiple options for mobile gaming. Yet, CDPR’s vice president of technology Charles Tremblay asserts that this latest port is undeniably the superior choice for enjoying the game.

In the latest Nintendo’s Creator’s Voice video, Tremplay highlighted that playing Role-Playing Games (RPG) on the new Switch 2 port offers an exceptional experience.

The developer shared that the experience remains just as fantastic, and they believe former players will find themselves instantly comfortable again. They added that there are numerous methods to engage with the game using controllers. Moreover, they emphasized that the new LCD screens with VRR support offer an exceptional way to enjoy the game on-the-go, in my opinion.

On the Nintendo Switch 2, Cyberpunk 2077 seems to run more stably compared to its performance on previous-gen PS4 and Xbox One consoles, but there’s still room for enhancements. Although the current build has some performance hiccups, it’s encouraging to see early signs of strong support for the system.

Despite this, Tremplay acknowledges that the game requires a smooth, uninterrupted experience, which can prove to be quite difficult without effective optimization techniques.

Among the most demanding titles announced for the latest Nintendo handheld is Cyberpunk 2077 in portable version. Although Star Wars Outlaws is also planned for this device, preliminary footage of the upcoming game doesn’t seem particularly promising.

CD Projekt Red’s RPG is frequently used as a standard for handheld devices like the Steam Deck. However, despite not having had the chance to play the latest version personally, based on gameplay footage, it appears to offer a significantly superior experience compared to what the Steam Deck can provide. Having spent numerous hours playing the game on the Valve handheld, I must say that the overall experience is not as exceptional as some might suggest.
