As a seasoned gamer with years of experience under my belt, I can’t help but feel a thrill running down my spine as I gaze upon the lineup for this year’s CS2 Shanghai Major. The anticipation is palpable, and it’s not just because I’ve spent countless hours perfecting my aim and strategy.
The competition starts with an initial stage called the Opening Stage, which consists of a five-round Swiss tournament. In this phase, only the advancement and elimination games will follow a best-of-three system. Once this stage ends, the top eight teams move on to the Elimination Stage, while the bottom eight teams are no longer part of the competition.
The seeding is done, and the opening matches are set!
After the PGL Copenhagen Major earlier in the year concluded with a European-exclusive playoff bracket, Europe’s prominence in the CS:2 scene remains central. This is evident as the top eight European teams, ranked from the Regional Standings, have been given direct access to the Elimination Stage.
Among the eight squads advancing to the Elimination Phase are the defending champs Natus Vincere, joined by FaZe Clan, Team Vitality, G2 Esports, Mousesports (MOUZ), HEROIC, Team Spirit, and 3DMAX.
Remarkably, BIG Clan and Virtus Pro barely failed to secure a spot among the top eight seeds, even though BIG managed to win all three of their matches in the European RMR.

Opening Matchups
The Initial Phase will showcase intraregional battles and exhilarating encounters, with games commencing on Saturday, November 30, at 4 AM in Central European Time. Among the eight first-round contests, the replay between BIG and Passion UA, who squared off earlier in the Europe RMR’s 2-0 pool, is particularly noteworthy. Additionally, the highly anticipated clash between Cloud9 and Team Liquid, widely regarded as the most electrifying fixture of the schedule, also takes place during this round.
Here is the full lineup for Round 1:
- FURIA vs. Gamer Legion
- Virtus Pro vs. MIBR
- Team Liquid vs. Cloud9
- Complexity vs. FlyQuest
- BIG vs. Passion UA
- fnatic vs. Wildcard Gaming
- The MongolZ vs. Rare Atom
- paiN Gaming vs. Imperial
After the opening games, there will be additional contests taking place later in the day, specifically the 1-0 and 0-1 rounds. All of these encounters will be decided in a single match.
Over the coming days, you can expect both the regular Pick’em feature and team-issued stickers in the game provided by Valve to become available.
With the clock ticking down to November 30, I find myself buzzing with excitement alongside fellow fans worldwide. We’re all preparing for another jaw-dropping demonstration of skill, strategy, and high-stakes drama as the CS2 competitive scene unfolds. The stage is perfectly poised for an unforgettable tournament in Shanghai – a spectacle that I can hardly wait to witness!
