As a seasoned gamer with years of experience under my belt, I must say that the loss of DRILLAS at the Shanghai Major RMR was a bitter pill to swallow. Having followed this team since their humble beginnings in the open qualifiers back in August, it’s been an exhilarating ride filled with highs and lows.
The loss signified a heartbreaking conclusion to the DRILLAS project, which had garnered significant backing from fans and the community alike. This ambitious endeavor, championed by Counter-Strike streamer Mark “ohnePixel” Zimmermann, displayed remarkable resilience but ultimately succumbed in a 1-2 series against a formidable opponent. Both teams put forth their best effort throughout the competition.
DRILLAS are out of the Shanghai Major RMR!
With a 1-2 defeat at the hands of The MongolZ yesterday, DRILLAS stood on the brink of elimination, preparing for their match against the Australian team, FlyQuest, today.
From the passionate perspective of a dedicated fan, I’d recount the exhilarating opening skirmish unfolding on FlyQuest’s selected battleground, Anubis. Regardless of DRILLAS’ relentless counterattacks, the Aussies managed to hold their ground and ultimately secured a hard-fought 13-9 victory, establishing a formidable 1-0 series advantage in this electrifying competition.
Once more, the CT-sides posed significant issues for Volodymyr “Woro2k” Veletniuk’s DRILLAS team. Now, they stood merely one map from potential elimination.
The team “DRILLAS” has unfortunately dropped the initial map to FlyQuest, requiring them to secure two consecutive victories from now on to keep their Major aspirations alive.

On their chosen map of Dust 2, DRILLAS made a strong comeback, asserting control dominantly. By half-time, they had amassed a significant lead of 10-2.

With no problems arising, they secured their map selection by a score of 13-2, thus tying the series. This necessitated a decisive third map, which was Ancient.
The final match of 2024 was one that would be hard to forget, as it kicked off with FlyQuest securing a significant 8-4 advantage by the half time mark. However, DRILLAS showed incredible resilience and determination, refusing to concede defeat easily.
Mounting a comeback, DRILLAS fought their way to a 12-11 advantage, earning match point.
But Declan “Vexite” Portelli had other plans and forced overtime:

Following FlyQuest regaining the lead at 14-12, Drillas countered with another surge, taking a 15-14 advantage and securing their second opportunity to win the match.
However, this time too, they missed the mark significantly; it was a golden opportunity, indeed an overtime doubleheader, that Drillas almost seized!
Surprisingly, they were unable to finish off the game, even though they held a 18-15 advantage. Regrettably, they missed out on all three chances to secure victory, allowing FlyQuest another opportunity to come from behind.
DRILLAS’s journey to the #ShanghaiMajor2024 comes to an end.

Soon afterward, FlyQuest’s triumph left ohnePixel, his teammates, and their supporters devastated. They emerged victorious on the map with a score of 22-19, thereby securing the series and forcing DRILLAS to depart.
In a hard-fought, extended match on the map Ancient, FlyQuest emerged victorious with a score of 2-1 against DRILLAS. Unfortunately, DRILLAS’s road to #ShanghaiMajor2024 has been closed.

After a swift victory over Lynn Vision in the lower bracket final, FlyQuest secured the last available spot from the Asian Regional Major Ranking (RMR), joining MongolZ and Rare Atom. Well done, Australian team!
Without owenpixel and DRILLAS, their aspirations of creating an enduring impact within the CS2 Major won’t come to fruition, as no team badges will be acquired for them.
ggs good luck to everyone remaining
feeling bad for the players
nothing else

The journey, tracing its roots back to August through the open qualifiers, was an enjoyable and lengthy one. Unfortunately, despite the enthusiasm and dedication of all involved, the endeavor ultimately fell short right at the finish line. Tough luck.

Due to circumstances, the German streamer won’t manage to get a custom sticker of his own included in the game.
We actually were one map away from this
