In 2022, YEKINDAR became a key entry fragger for team Liquid, one of the top performers in the scene. However, following his shift to the role of in-game leader (IGL) around mid-2023, he found it challenging to consistently deliver individual performance results as he had previously. Originally signed to strengthen Liquid’s offensive lineup, the Latvian player took up the leadership position after Nick “nitr0” Cannella left the team.
Nevertheless, the action failed to bring about the expected outcomes, with Liquid’s gameplay taking a significant dive. Even after passing on the In-Game Leader responsibilities to Russell “Twistzz” Van Dulken and later Casper “cadiaN” Møller in subsequent team revisions, YEKINDAR struggled to regain his previous form.
Liquid make yet another roster change!
Following their quarter-final performance at the Perfect World CS2 Major in Shanghai, Liquid opted to switch out YEKINDAR. This decision was made after a season of continuous progress since the team experienced major changes during the off-season summer, with the addition of Roland “ultimate” Tomkowiak, Justin “jks” Savage, and coach Torbjørn “mithR” Nyborg. The new role of Twistzz as IGL has brought a fresh organizational approach to the team.
Twistzz expressed his excitement about the addition of NertZ:
We’re thrilled to announce that Chill Guy has joined our squad officially! Couldn’t be more delighted to welcome @NertzCS to the team. I must admit, this wasn’t my first attempt to bring him aboard, but it sure feels like a fantastic holiday gift now!
— Russel van Dulken (@Twistzz) January 6, 2025
In gaming circles, NertZ, famous for his intense rifling and impactful gameplay, is anticipated to introduce a new energetic vibe to Team Liquid. Yet, his joining stirs up some uncertainty regarding the specific roles each member will assume within the team’s gameplay.
As a seasoned gamer, I’ve got to say, it seems like ol’ JKS is gearing up for some entry-fragging action. The Aussie’s been around the block, and he showed his stuff during FaZe Clan’s triumph at IEM Katowice 2022, where he filled in as a stand-in.
The shift in this lineup opens up a chance for team Liquid to investigate their eligibility for upcoming Major tournaments via the Asian continent, given that they currently have two players from the Asia-Pacific area, along with two North American and one European members.
With the conclusion of said move, Team Liquid’s roster for the upcoming season is as follows:
- Keith “NAF” Markovic
- Russel “Twistzz” Van Dulken (IGL)
- Justin “jks” Savage
- Roland “ultimate” Tomkowiak
- Guy “NertZ” Iluz
- Torbjørn “mithR” Nyborg (Coach)
- Mareks “YEKINDAR” Gaļinskis (Benched)
With NertZ joining the team, Liquid strives to regain their position as a leading competitor in CS2. They plan to build upon recent advancements and fill the voids in their roster. The integration of the Israeli rifleman into the fresh setup will be closely observed by both fans and experts alike.
What are your thoughts on these changes? Will NertZ’s increased firepower help the team, or could the new role assignments lead to further complications for Team Liquid?
