As a gamer with over two decades of Counter-Strike under my belt, I can’t help but feel a mix of emotions watching this saga unfold between Heroic and Astralis. It’s been quite a rollercoaster ride, seeing these teams evolve, merge, and now face off again.
The valiant team, Heroic, have ensured their spot in the IEM Rio 2024 playoffs, as they triumphed over their historic adversaries, Astralis, with an impressive performance.
Heroic have beaten their former core to advance in Rio!
Approximately a year ago, the Astralis team brought in Martin “stavn” Lund and Jakob “jabbi” Nygaard as a duo. Meanwhile, Casper “cadiaN” Møller left for Liquid, which forced Heroic to abandon their all-Danish initiative and go global instead.
Following the departure of Alexander “bro0” Bro roughly a month ago, Astralis brought on board another previous member from Heroic, cadiaN, who has since assumed leadership responsibilities within the team.
Yesterday, Heroic encountered an Astralis team for the first time with three ex-players among them. They were well-prepared for this encounter.
Following their victory over G2 in their initial match on Monday, they demonstrated equally impressive performance against the Danes yesterday.
The team demonstrated heroism, securing a 13-9 victory on the map Mirage, and then went on to claim an impressive 13-7 triumph on the map chosen by Astralis, known as Ancient.
It’s a 2v5 from @NertzCS & @sjuushCSGO to get things going in Mirage #IEM

Guy “Nertz” Iluz shined bright for Heroic, delivering 39 kills across both played maps.
It’s just that EASY for @NertzCS #IEM

Heroic in game leader Damjan “kyxsan” Stoilkovski was very pleased with his team’s performance:
We defeated AstralisCS 2-0, advancing us to the playoffs at IEM Rio. Our next match is tomorrow with a chance to reach the semifinals. Good game! (GG)

I’ve got my fingers crossed! If we manage to pull off a win against Team Vitality later on, we could potentially bypass the quarterfinals and jump straight into the semifinals. What an incredible opportunity that would be!
Whilst this is an incredible accomplishment for Heroic, to beat the team that now owns 3 of their former players, it is disappointing for Astralis.
Tonight, the Danes still have an opportunity left to make it to the IEM Rio 2024 playoffs as they square off against Virtus Pro from Russia.
They have yet to secure a victory in any best-of-three match against cadiaN; they really need to improve significantly.
What do you think about Astralis’ chances? Can they beat VP tonight?
