Oh boy, oh boy! As a seasoned CS:GO player with over a decade of experience under my belt, I can’t contain my excitement at the prospect of Train making its grand return in Counter-Strike 2! This iconic map has been part of my gaming journey since its inception in CS 1.6 and I’ve seen it evolve through the years.
Since the shift from Counter-Strike: Global Offensive to Counter-Strike 2, the iconic “Train” map has not made an appearance in CS games. However, this could potentially change in the near future.
Valve is working on Train’s return to the game!
Train is apparently in the process of being remade:
In their recent update, developers have disclosed that they’re refining a new variant of the de_train map for Counter-Strike!

Back in March 2023, when Counter-Strike 2 was initially announced, Valve had previously hinted at a CS2 rendition of the Train map in one of their trailers.
Initially, it seemed like a straightforward adaptation, similar to the CS:GO map we had seen before. However, considering the passage of time, there’s a good chance we’ll receive a full-fledged remake instead.
The train, initially constructed in 1999, served its purpose in both Counter-Strike 1.6 and Counter-Strike: Source. Later, the Source version was transferred to Counter-Strike: Global Offensive.
Ever since Counter-Strike: Global Offensive dropped back in 2012, I’ve been hooked! Here’s a peek at what it looked like way back when:
In 2014, Train underwent a total overhaul, making it the first map to do so from top to bottom. This revamped version of the map was included in the Active Duty Map Pool and was featured at every significant tournament until Berlin 2019.
The gamepiece remained confined to that specific swimming pool until around early 2021, when it was replaced with Ancient. Although it continued to be playable within CS:GO up until then, it hasn’t been seen or used since.
Interestingly, the 10-year milestone since Train underwent a major revamp in CS:GO could potentially coincide with its initial release in CS2.
Are you excited by the news of this remake? Did you enjoy Train back in CS:GO?
