As a long-time follower of CS:GO, I must admit, this Shanghai Major has been quite the rollercoaster ride! The German powerhouse BIG qualifying for the Elimination Stage again is a moment that brings me immense joy and relief after their heartbreaking loss to FURIA the previous day.
The win marks a significant milestone for the German squad, as they return to the second stage of a Major for the first time since IEM Rio 2022. For Complexity’s Jonathan “EliGE” Jablonowski, the loss is particularly bitter, ending a streak of top-16 finishes at Majors that stretches back to PGL Major Krakow 2017.
BIG qualify for the Elimination Stage again!
Initially, BIG started the tournament with a strong momentum, winning all three matches without a loss in the Europe RMR B. This impressive victory initially appeared to grant Johannes “tabseN” Wodarz’s team direct access to the Elimination Stage. However, due to a mid-tournament adjustment based on Valve’s Regional Rankings, BIG was moved to the Opening Stage, requiring them to work harder for their dreams of participating in the Major.
On Anubis, selected by Complexity, the North American team showcased their superiority, with impressive performances from EliGE and Håkon “hallzerk” Fjærli. As a result, Complexity easily won the map with a score of 13-5.
Big regrouped on an ancient map, their chosen battleground. After falling behind 5-7 in the first half, Rigon Gashi ignited their CT-side offensive with an impressive pistol round.
Rigon’s unique selling proposition is brilliantly timed, resulting in a stunning 4k win! #ShanghaiMajor2024

Jon “JDC” De Castro and tabseN strategically ensured that Complexity’s attack side would not hamper their advancement towards the Elimination Stage.

BIG closed out Ancient 13-9 and forced a deciding third map.
The action shifted over to Dust2, a map where BIG had lost to FURIA the day before, managing only three victorious rounds. After a tense and closely contested first half, BIG managed to gain an edge in the deciding round on their T-side, eventually securing the map 13-9 to seal the series.
Karim “Krimbo” Moussa once more emphasized his position as the premier CS2 player in Germany, excelling with a stunning 21-kill display that showcased his ability to deliver in high-stress situations and maintain composure.
KRIMBO!!!

Today’s win brings a sense of relief for German fans, who suffered heartache yesterday when BIG lost to FURIA. Their impressive comeback today underscores their standing as one of the top Dust2 teams in the community, demonstrating a united effort that lives up to the high hopes placed upon them.
Under high pressure, TabseN undeniably shines, maintaining composure while strategizing an exceptional T-side on Dust 2, earning him immense praise.
Once more, they’ve found their rightful place among the best in German CS, securing a spot among the final 16 teams at the Shanghai Major.
WE DID IT! – TWICE!
WE’VE REACHED THE ELIMINATION STAGE! – AGAIN!

After the initial chaos subsides, we eagerly anticipate the official commencement of the opening contests in the Elimination Round, which will begin this coming Thursday. Assuming the rankings hold steady, BIG is expected to face off against HEROIC in their first best-of-one matchup during that stage.
Will this powerhouse team, led by tabseN, finally qualify for the Major playoffs after a six-year absence? Everyone will be on the edge of their seats, anticipating whether they can advance further in the most prestigious competition.
