Crytek announces layoffs of around 15 percent of its employees

At Crytek, a reduction in workforce is imminent due to challenges and hardships affecting nearly all projects except for their popular game, Hunt: Showdown 1896. The company has disclosed plans to let go of approximately 15% of its staff, which totals around 400 people. In an effort to retain as many team members working on Hunt: Showdown as possible, Crytek is undergoing a business reorganization.

This week, Crytek publicly announced redundancies within their company via social media posts. The company had tried to postpone layoffs for as long as feasible by transferring employees to the Hunt: Showdown 1896 team. Regrettably, these measures were insufficient to ensure the company’s financial stability, leading to the decision to let go of 15% of its workforce. The affected individuals will receive severance pay and career transition services to aid them in finding new jobs.

2025 has seen an unfortunate increase in studio layoffs, with Crytek being the latest addition to this regrettable trend. Earlier in the year, Transformers: Reactivate studio Splash Damage experienced game cancellations accompanied by job cuts. Similarly, Rumbleverse developer Iron Galaxy and Smite publisher Hi-Rez Studios have announced layoffs, allegedly a necessary measure for each studio to remain viable.

As Crytek enters the scene, it seems the job market within game development remains volatile in 2025. Keep an eye out for any new developments concerning this situation.
