In light of the destructive wildfires affecting Los Angeles from January 7 onwards, Crypto.com has declared their intention to contribute $1 million towards the aid efforts aimed at helping those affected by this disaster.
On Thursday’s statement, it was revealed that the funds would be allocated towards organizations such as the Los Angeles Fire Department Foundation, California Fire Foundation, and Los Angeles Police Foundation. The intention behind this donation is to provide firefighters and first responders with crucial equipment and resources essential for both current and future emergency disaster responses.
The Scale of Destruction
In Pacific Palisades, wildfires started and so far have claimed at least 25 lives, destroyed over 12,000 buildings (such as homes and businesses), and burned through more than 23,000 acres. This massive fire has caused the evacuation of hundreds of thousands of people according to reports.
Matt David, President of North America and Head of Corporate Relations at Crypto.com, conveyed his support for those impacted, saying in essence, “We stand together with you.
For almost ten years, I’ve called Los Angeles home and started my family there, making it a deeply meaningful place for me. Though we face many challenges, we are dedicated to collaborating with our allies and the community to help anyone we can during difficult times,” he expressed.
Similar to other significant companies, Crypto.com’s action is in line with their initiatives. Notably, The Walt Disney Company has vowed a contribution of $15 million towards the fire relief and rebuilding projects in the Los Angeles region.
In a similar vein, Google is contributing $15 million, which includes enhancing fire details on Google Maps and aiding in housing searches. Companies like Amazon have pledged $10 million, providing supplies and food donations as well.
Comcast NBCUniversal and Netflix are each giving $10 million, and they’re also helping their employees. Snap has already given out $5 million for immediate assistance, while Walmart and Sam’s Club have pledged $2.5 million in cash, food supplies, water, and essential items, including a Mobile Relief Kitchen offering free meals.
Donation Bins to be Placed at Strategic Places
Beyond monetary support, Crypto.com stated that local sports teams and organizations are proactively taking part in aid initiatives. For instance, the Los Angeles Lakers have set up donation campaigns during their matches and at their practice facility, gathering necessary supplies for those in need.
Based on the announcement, donation containers are going to be set up at the Crypto.com Arena’s entrances on Figueroa, Kobe Bryant, and Star Plaza. Collection will commence 1.5 hours prior to the game starting on January 13th, 15th, and 27th, and will continue until halftime.
Just like the LA Kings’ Toyota Sports Performance Center, it’s being used as a hub for gathering supplies, helping with the YMCA’s aid efforts during this challenging time.
